Interesting photos, an honest view of Blackpool.
Sadly the images just reinforce my opinion that most UK seaside towns are usually depressing places to visit.

Looks much better than I had expected. I've heard very negative things about this town. Cheers!

Blackpool lives up to your impressions I would imagine. But there are many stunning UK Seaside towns. I was in St Ives this year and found it one of the most beautiful seaside towns I have been to anywhere in the world, and I've been to a few.

But Blackpool? I don't think I could be paid to visit it. I don't want to offend any people here who really like the place, but it is everything in my mind that a city shouldn't be. That aside, thanks jock in da pool for the collection as they are interesting pics.

Agreed, Blackpool is a depressing and depressed place and there are other such UK seaside towns, Rhyl for example. But there are also many many very attractive places to visit around our coast.

Great photos though!

Everything i hate about british seaside towns summed up in one place, knocking all the tat down and leaving empty plots would be bettter. Its amazing how the most succesful seaside town and prettiests are miles away from the kiss me quick, arcade machines and gamblers (ie amusment arcades), and concentrate more on their often beautiful locations and cultural atractions. Take Scarborough for example, still has a waning amusment arcade and candy floss contingent in the town, but if you took it away you would have something more upmarket and wholey origional like Whitby a few miles away (which had more visitors IMO when i visited). Do people really crave amusment arcades and tacky architecture, time to restore them back to their origional looks like St Ives, Tenby or Eastbourne and add some cutting edge architecture here and there.

Nice and tacky! Like a British seaside version of Las Vegas. Actually looks better than I expected. Not every small town in Britain has to look like a Medieval gem. I think Blackpool should remain a city of piers, arcades, casinos and lights.

Quite right. I'd rather have a few towns that specialise in complete tackiness so that those who want it know where to go and those who don't, know where to avoid.

I've never been to Blackpool but those photos certainly seem to capture the atmosphere and revelry of the place.

Interesting shots of Blackpool. Obviously not the nicest seaside place to visit but looks like there is enough going on.

Thank you so much for these excellent pictures, you have captured the magic and fun that is Blackpool.

I love the fact you have taken the time to explore St John's Square and Birley Street (with the new arches and displays), Blackpool has had two really good years and 2010 has been excellent for the town with alot of new public and private investment coming into the town.

The Crowds have been huge this year and thats captured in these pictures, there would be a lot of seaside towns in the UK who would love to be this busy on an October evening.

Where else can you have three piers, a huge Victorian tower, two superb victorian ball rooms, loads of victorian and art deco theatres and a 12 tram line linking them all up.

I moved to Blackpool three months ago and have had the best three months of my life, it's a wonderful place, full of opportunies for new comers and anyone can be anything they want to be here.

Blackpool rocks in every way.

Thanks for posting. You don't get to see Blackpool by night all that often in photo-threads.

I'd agree. If you can't have fun in Blackpool then you may as well just hand in your cards and call it a day, because your pulse has given up on you.
