Hmm........ Shenzen, nice town
The Venice of the East? I love the Chinese pagoda's, temples, houses and buildings like that. I like the roofes of the historical Chinese buildings.

Shenzen is something the Chinese Commie Government didn't destroyed (and don't let it be destroyed). I hate the communist grey blocks they build there in China, which destroys China's cultural view Besides.....When is there finally an revolution in China like in the Arabian World?

It's better to ride a bike to explore the tombs.

Chengde Imperial Summer Villa -2

The Mountain Resort is known to be at least 3 degrees Celsius cooler than Chengde City itself. More and more visitors come here in order to escape the heat. A vast complex of palaces and administrative and ceremonial buildings. Temples of various architectural styles and imperial gardens blend harmoniously into a landscape of lakes, pastureland and forests.

Chengde Imperial Summer Villa -3

The Mountain Resort is most famous for the 72 scenic spots .
Many of the scenic spots around the resort's lake area were copied from famous landscaped gardens in Southern China.

Chengde Imperial Summer Villa -6

The Chengde Mountain Resort is found in a long and narrow ravine by the Wulie River in the Yanshan Mountains. The resort itself is enclosed with a 10-kilometre-long, 13-metre-wide stone wall that runs up and down the terrain in a way reminiscent of the Great Wall. The resort itself falls into two parts, palaces and gardens.

Taoping Diaolou Buildings. Also called the Qiang Towers. They were built by the Qiang Ethnic Group of China. They are located in Western Sichuan province.

Many of these towers are centuries old. They have withstood at least three major earthquakes. They say modern construction is deficient when compared to the construction of these towers. Towers generally go all the way to bedrock while new construction no. Also, the tower is wider at the base and gets less wide has you go up. They say all this helps the towers to withstands earthquakes. They might get cracks but thats it. Seem ancient builders knew what they were doing.

Quote:
Built in 111 BC, this ancient village has weathered 2,000 years of battles and besiegement.

In the next coming decades, every Chinese will remember the devastating 8.0 Magnitude earthquake happened in Sichuan, China, 5.12.2008. It has been a year now since the tragedy happened. People can still remember the suffering from the disaster. And a lot of discussions about the earthquake are still going on in China, especially about the vulnerable school buildings.

Interestingly, lots of people pointed out that while lots of modern buildings were destroyed in the earthquake, some ancient constructions survived in the overwhelming natural power. One example is the infamous Dujiangyan Irrigation System, the other example is the ancient Qiang village stone buildings.

On a nearby mountain slope stand two nine-story hexahedral blockhouses, or diaolou, in whose construction mathematics and geometry were obviously used. Despite their 30-meter height, they have survived erosion as well as frequent earthquakes.
Read this which contains more information on the towers and Qiang people - http://www.chinauniquetour.com/html/...arts-6194.html
