Criterion has looked dead in the water for a while. The dismantling of the signs were a bad omen indeed.....

There's a lot of news about the price of steel going up, but I've never heard anything about the price of glass, I don't see how it could have a hike as the raw materials required are plentiful and stable, and energy prices are coming down now. As for Criterion, developers of projects like Criterion always keep their cards close to their chests, and usually even other companies don't know their tactical planning. The Gateway news makes some sense and wouldn't surprise me as this small developer has probably overstretched itself, but again where is this from? Gateway has a new website recently published, not as detailed as the old one but the number of apartments quoted for the whole scheme (640) is exactly the same as for the existing design with the tower, so no evidence there to suggest a downsizing.

Oh, and John Thorpe mentioned Lumiere and Criterion on the future skyline of Leeds ... TODAY (he and Kevin Grady were on Andrew and Georgie's breakfast show this morning).
He's the GOD of Leeds buildings, so if he's not aware of these projects failing, then that's good enough me.

Well certainly regarding Criterion Place I had e-mailed my concerns about when the thing will start several months ago but recieved zero reply with not even some stuff saying it will soon be the North's showpiece development automated response as a reply with unspecified date of commencement. I really would love it to be developed but looking at Simon Estates track record of low rise business parks and retail parks as opposed to high rise skyscrapers really makes me wonder if they are up to the job for such a development as opposed to someone like KW Linfoot or the Beetham Organisation. Could we perhaps see Simons sell on the planned scheme to someone else like those two developers perhaps as three years from the first announcement surely we should have heard more by now?

My information (and again I can't vouch for it but time will tell!) is that Criterion is probably dead. The developer of Gateway didn't factor inflation into the pricing and that is a contributory reason behind the reduction in the height of the proposed 26 storey tower in the third phase. Building costs are rising very quickly and, for example, a particular price of glass for windows can now only be held for thirty days. |

Criterion Place may be on ice for a while, but I'm sure it won't be dead, now Dandara are on board and combined with other snippets of news we've had over the last 12-24 months.

Yeh I no what you mean it is in abit of a prime location for a tower block. But it's fairly clean and the front entrance has recently been refurbished abit so I should imagine it being around for a few years yet.
It's pretty full aswell at night most of the lights are on inside it. It's only 45 p/w to live there if you share with 2 other ppl. Thats a bargain for the location and think of the views you will get in a few yrs time with Lumiere and Criterion etc being built. |

Id say its more likely to get a K2 style reclad than demolition.

Something like this would be appropriate. Braidwood Court in Notts has just been refurbished. Finished Product. It would cost loads to refurb a building to the standards that K2 was done.

HEY PEOPLE OF LEEDS! LEEDS NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!
ok got your attention, Monopoly are doing an online vote for the cities which get on the next board, we are currently 15th placing us in the unflattering light blue zone on the board, we want to be in the grren and blue zones, Sheffield is currently way ahead of us!!!!!!! You can cast one vote per day and give a reason why you want Leeds, mine was that Leeds is the knightsbridge of the north and has a booming financial economy that embody everything that Monopoly is. So come on guys get voting everyday!!!!!!! Here is the link: http://www.monopoly.co.uk/leaderboard.aspx

Wouldn't worry too much! Glasgow is ahead of London and Durham is near the bottom! Leeds isn't far behind London. So it's a bit silly really!
