Latest photo update of Limketkai’s 18-storey hotel shows vertical construction now in full swing. Although as I see it work is quite slow but progress can be clearly noticed. During may last post, steel columns were already visible but there were still works in the ground.

Perhaps, this time and as shown in the photos below, construction is now on the second floor….pictures were taken on All Saints Day so all construction workers were given a day off.

Mall developer Limketkai is investing P1 billion for a hotel in Cagayan de Oro City with facilities at par with those of Makati City hotels.

The Board of Investments (BOI) last month approved the application for incentives of Limketkai Hotel and Resort Corp. owned by the Limketkai Sons Inc., owner and developer of Limketkai Center.

The P1.068 billion project involves the construction and operation of an 18-story, 224-room business class hotel located at Limketkai Center along Limketkai avenue.

The hotel will have 210 standard rooms and 14 suite rooms, a 648-seat capacity ballroom with three function rooms and a business center.

The hotel will feature state-of-the-art facilities such as a grand lobby, a fine-dining restaurant, a modern lounge, a swimming pool, a gym and a coffee/resto bar.

It will be connected to the Limketkai Mall and Atrium and other developments via existing elevated walkways at the 2nd level of the hotel.

The project was endorsed by the Department of Tourism last March.

Commercial operation is scheduled to begin on July 2013 with a 152-manpower complement.

The firm is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Limketkai Sons, which is lead by Alfonso Lim and Albino Limketkai.

Limketkai Sons is also into agribusiness but its Limketkai Center has raised its profile as a property developer.

The hotel is expected to complement the Center, which is home to the largest and most modern shopping-center complex in Northern Mindanao.

Bellevue hotels say sales, occupancy better than ’09THE BELLEVUE Group of Hotels, Inc. has so far enjoyed better business this year than in 2009 despite recent incidents that could have driven away tourists, an official said late last week.


THE BELLEVUE group recently opened the B Hotel in Alabang, Muntinlupa.Sales of and occupancy at its flagship hotel, Bellevue Manila, for 2010 as of early November have topped year-ago levels despite the hostage crisis in August that left eight Hong Kong tourists dead and the more recent reports of a terror threat, the company’s revenue manager Annie Bisuna said.

The US State Department issued on Nov. 2 a statement warning Americans of terrorist attacks “not only in the Southern islands but also in other areas, to include Manila.”

“Year-to-date, given the two incidents, 2010 fared better than 2009 in terms of both revenue and occupancy,” Ms. Bisuna said.

“November and the first two weeks of December are good months for the hotel industry. December would also be the month where our most balikbayan would visit the Philippines and spend their holidays,” Ms. Bisuna said.

Earlier, the company opened its second hotel also in Alabang to cater to budget travelers. The 11-storey B Hotel took around P500 million to construct.

The company is planning to expand to Bohol, El Nido in Palawan and Cagayan de Oro within the next three years.

Several other hotel industry players were similarly upbeat that they would still post growth this year despite the hostage crisis in August.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Korean hotel and leisure firm I.F. Koresco Corp. will put up a $20-million casino-hotel in this city within the year that will generate at least 200 jobs.

The company has also started building its second 330-square meter condominium complex for Korean retirees and has been operating this city’s Hotel Koresco, which caters largely to Korean visitors.

I.F. Koresco Corp. Chairman Suk Koo Ko said they were awaiting the permit from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor).

He added that as soon as they receive the permit, they would build the 100-room casino-hotel. Mr. Suk said they would build the casino-hotel at the back of Hotel Koresco. It will have 70 deluxe rooms and 30 suite rooms.

The plan of the Korean firm, however, courts protest actions from community leaders. Religious and socio-civic groups have opposed gambling joints and a government plan to open a casino at the elite hotel Pryce Plaza more than a decade ago. The city council has enacted an ordinance prohibiting casino operations here.

"We need to gather again [against the Korean casino-hotel]... We just need to be consistent with the stand of the church," said Catholic priest Jose A. Cabantan, director of this city’s archdiocese. "Gambling can lead to vices. It becomes addictive not only to the rich but also to the poor," Mr. Cabantan said.

But Mr. Suk said the casino-hotel is exclusive to in-house guests, particularly foreign players. "We want to clarify that residents in this city cannot play at the casino — only our foreign guests. We don’t want the locals to spend their money here," he added.

He said that they have clarified their policy when they presented their plans to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her visit here last year. In Mindanao, there is only one government-owned and controlled casino, which is in Davao City.

Mr. Suk said only about 1,200 Koreans check in at the hotel yearly, but they expect more to come with the construction of the Laguindingan international airport. He said that the second condominium complex, which will be sold to Korean retirees, has started construction with a projected cost of $1.5 million. The first condominium that they built for $700,000 is now sold out.

"We have many investment plans here," said Mr. Suk, who plans to retire here. The company expects 20,000 Korean visitors when the new casino-hotel opens next year. "We would like to add at least 1% growth to the city’s economy." — Geefe P. Alba, BusinessWorld

Its alright we know that Davao is bigger and the people there are disciplined. But who knows in the future CDO might overtake Davao like we have here in the US. Sa una ang Chicago 2nd man jud sa NY now LA has overtaken Chicago. Pero pachada jud ang Davao. hehehe

Work on the Uptown Condotel is now on the 3rd level of the condo units. Although it’s officially on the 3rd level, it’s actually more on the 6th floor as each unit has “2 floors”.

As shown on the photos below, concreting of the 1st and 2nd levels are already complete and concreting is now on the 3rd. Scaffoldings can still be seen….will they introduce paint or aluminum metal cladding? This remains to be seen in the coming months.

Congrats CdeO for having high rise projects already. Unfortunately, Naga City cannot have those since according to the DENR, Naga's soil is not suitable for high-rise and limited only up to 10 floors.

The 7,700-seat capacity Cagayan de Oro International Trade and Convention Center located at Taguanao, Indahag is slated for completion soon and due to be opened in 2012.

This after Cagayan de Oro City Second District Concgressman Rufus Rodriguez secured the release of additional P200 million for this year 2011. Photo below shows Cong. Rodriguez and some local officials posing with the scale model of the Convention Center.



The P758-million convention center is due for completion in 2012. DPWH Regional Director Norma Gironella said they will prioritize the function rooms, water and electric systems of the convention with available funding of P385 million as well as the additional P200 million.

The convention center building, which will accommodate at least 7,700 people, will be an ideal place for international, national and trade exhibits, seminar and conventions. It will be operated and managed by the Philippine Tourism Authority.

Work is now in progress for the widening of the Puerto Section of the Iligan-Cagayan-Butuan Road (ICBR) or National Highway in preparation for the construction of the proposed flyover project in the said area.

Cagayan de Oro City Second District Congressman Rufus Rodriguez recently led the ground-breaking ceremony for the multi-million infrastructure project in the city. Actually, work has began a few weeks ahead of the ground breaking. Of course we all know how politicians like the drum-roll.

The P10-million widening of National Highway in Puerto is also in preparation for the construction of the P300-million flyover, of which P200 million will be funded by the French government and the remaining P100 million by the national government as counterpart. The flyover is expected to be completed in 8 months.

The project aims to decongest traffic in the area. In my opinion, it will only help vehicles to bypass the bottle-neck at Puerto Junction but will not solve the traffic. The main causes of the traffic at Puerto is the uncontrolled entry of tricycles and trisikad into the national highway as well as the presence of sidewalk and ambulant vendors which occupies the spaces along the highway for vehicle parking.

Took a couple of aerial shots over the weekend on the on-going Paseo del Rio Hotel project….and it looks like vertical construction has began.

Vertical steel columns are now rising on the southern portion of the property as shown. This is the best zoom I can make from a thousand feet up in the air.

Construction of Cagayan de Oro’s first high rise building has now progressed significantly with work now on the 3rd-4th floor. About half of the building or the portion fronting Limketkai Avenue is now going up to the fourth level while the rear portion near the skybridge is just about to start the 2nd level.

You can notice the high ceiling of the ground floor, maybe a good location for a ballroom or any other function. You can also notice some work on the skybridge which connects to the East Concourse.

The proposed 18-storey hotel is expected to be completed in 2 years. The Limketkai Group is implementing a masterplan for the 30-hectare complex which they envisioned to be the main business district in the region.
