Looks more like the Sears Tower to me.

That's what I was thinking, but it looks like Taipei 101 and the Willis Tower had a child, and the green cladding was recessive. And One World Trade Center wants its guyed wires back!

It is basically an 800 metre version of Sears/Willis Tower.
It uses the same bundled tube and all steel structure, and multiple setbacks.
It has different cladding (still fairly dark though based on the renders), there are more tubes (32 vs 9), and the tubes are smaller (16m vs 25m), but there are definitely a lot of similarities with Sears/Willis Tower.
Here is a render I did to comare Sky City, Sears/Willis and 432 Park Ave, it really shows how huge this thing will be!

Very cool. Oh and yes the 90th floor wings of Sears do have roofs - just that the grey used is nearly identical to the ground horizon color so it blends in nearly perfectly . I had to double check to think you forgot to model a part.

But yeah, that's just insane. Thanks for taking the time to do that!

@Matt
you uploaded your old version with the wrong height. you also created a new version including the spire that represents the current height of the project better:
roof is at 725m acording to the diagram we last saw, with the coffee house

also SSP represents the height in a perfect way aswell

Wow! Seriously? I really hope they build it like that. Now I'll have to visit China just to get a cup of coffee.

And unless the current Kingdom Tower design changes, even when that is complete, I think Sky City will still be the highest to roof, and definitely the highest observation deck!

Strangely nobody noticed the article linked on that page (full article here) mentions there really is hold on a construction site due to the lack of the approvals. The article says the excavation for foundation began but lately they ordered pause on construction till all the approval process is worked out. And this time it's directly the Broad ceo who provides the news.

Quote:
On Tuesday, the tycoon behind the project said in a telephone interview that he had ordered a pause in work at the site while waiting for further approvals from regulators in Beijing.

“It’s because of all the concern in the media and on the Internet, the government is a little wary and has slowed down the process,” said Zhang Yue, the chairman of the Broad Group.

But he vowed to finish the building, saying that he expected a delay of no more than two to three months, with completion of the building in June or July next year instead of the original plan of finishing it in April. Workers have already dug a large hole in the ground for the foundations and have just laid a four-lane road to the site to bring in heavy equipment.

The article also comment the drilling rigs we saw on the last couple of updates:

Quote:
But work nonetheless continued earlier this month at the site. Bulldozers sliced slabs of earth and six drilling rigs bored holes for a drainage system.

Eventually next photo update from the construction site can prove even this article is trash but I have to say they did included some specific data in the article and indeed we haven't any updates for some time already so I wouldn't be surprised if there really was a hold.

This thing is HUGE. I mean, it's not exactly a monstrosity but it just feels like one because of it's height. So tall!

with over a 1 million m² or 11 millions sq feet in floorspace it is by all definitions a monstrosity. It would make it the third largest singel structure on earth after the Chengdu New Century Global Centre and Dubai International Airport Terminal 3. Whilst it may only be 10 meters taller than the Burj Khalifa it has over twice as much floorspace.
