we all lost our optimism with all the delays if there is on going construction for several weeks with t rising steadily floor after floor in an amazing speed, then i will be amazed again, but for now we shouldn't get too much hope up.

Agree. But it's still possible it'll be build, and it's for sure not impossible.

But for now we've to wait and see what will happen in the next months.

Actually I hope it doesn't get built. It trolls the emotion in the WT race.

Good point but I'm hoping this Experimental Building does get built because it could Pioneer a new generation of Super-quick-built talls/super-talls that could lead to.......

Btw is there actually any info on these pre-assembling halls / factories they wanted to build for this project? If they don't even exist that would be clear evidence this tower is not going to get built

By that logic Kingdom Tower should have been a lost cause for optimism.

At least we know they have started its prep. That's enough of a sign for me that this'll go forward.

it was Prep, now it's on hold. Let's see if J97 will be a success. If yes the chances for Sky City will increase.

i've nothing against that since Kingdom Tower will still be taller. I just don't want several of these towers which look all the same.

Changsha. It is the "Tower of Changsha": A super-rich Chinese want to build the tallest building in the world. 838 meters it should even be high - ten meters higher than the previous record holder. The authorities are skeptical, they doubt statics of the gigantic mammoth building.
An Egyptian pyramid and a small Versailles Zhang Yue is already built. Next, the Chinese multi-millionaire is planning the tallest building in the world. In just six months, it is 838 meters wide project in Changsha City in the sky. For the new "Sky City" the current record holder, which was built in five years of construction would Burj Khalifa tower over in Dubai to ten meters.

Unlike the Chinese authorities Zhang is firmly convinced of his plans. "There are few people who support us," complains the entrepreneur whose fortune is estimated at 1.1 billion yuan (133 million euros). With the sale of air conditioners of the 53-year-old was rich. He became known as the first businessman in China who traveled in his own helicopter. Now he wants to reinvent itself as a green model entrepreneur.

"Sky City" is a way out of the rural exodus caused by environmental disaster, says Zhang. The influx of hundreds of millions of Chinese into the cities in recent decades is the largest migration in human history. "We need as quickly as possible away from this ill-conceived urbanization," says the entrepreneur. Building as "Sky City" spent little land and also were made of materials that can be produced with little energy.

Is built like Lego bricks
An impression of how Zhang imagines houses of the future, is the 30-storey hotel, which has built his company Broad Sustainable Building in Changsha - in just 15 days. A time-lapse movie on the video portal Youtube shows how the hotel constructed is concrete and metal elements are clipped together like giant Lego blocks.

As the authorities have stopped for the time being the construction
"We are not concerned about making money," asserts Zhang while sitting barefoot on the top floor of his hotel. Thick gray smog blocks the view from the windows. "Once one has an awareness of the environment, then loses money its meaning." His private helicopter, the businessman, for environmental reasons since abolished again. And Rupert Hoogewerf of the "Hurun Report," the ranking of the richest Chinese, says Zhang was "not far from being an environmental activist." How many of the super rich in China trying Zhang, socially exert influence.

The authorities stopped the construction project
In the designed by Zhang's wife replica of the Palace of Versailles on the premises of the contractor, designing an "Academy for Environmental Philosophy." But it is even more important, the project "Sky City". "In December we are ready," says the former art student. Construction was officially installed last year, but the authorities stopped the project soon. Independent engineers complain many unresolved problems in the construction industry - from the construction of the elevator to fire protection.

When the plans for Zhang's "Sky City" were presented for the first time, the professional audience just laughed, said David Scott of the Council for high-rise buildings and urban habitat ( CTBUH ) in the USA. Meanwhile, the projects to be taken seriously. "I would not say that it is not feasible., If it is well thought out, it will work," says Scott. Presumably, delaying the construction because the authorities the project again examined, and finally the standards for seismic safety of skyscrapers in China are very high.

Entrepreneur Zhang makes other reasons for the freeze: "If you want to do in this society something good, then you nobody believes this society lacks the basic trust, she looks happy as bad.." (Afp)"

It seems strange that his solution to rushed urbanization is to build extremely large skyscrapers quickly. That's some recursive logic right there.

The way to counter mass migration to Chinese cities is to better develop the existing infrastructure of rural China, which is woefully behind the rest of the country. They don't need massive steel obelisks planted down in their towns and villages. They need rail links and developed businesses and a better spread of services.

Everything about this project smacks of a vanity piece. Tallest. Fastest. Cheapest. And even if it does get built, it's just going to be an upscaled version of those endless Soviet tenanment blocks. Uninteresting, bland designs that maximise density and efficiency. A blight on the landscape, no matter how impressive you think its height will be. It's a box. A tall box, but a box nonetheless.

Sky City wouldn't be built in America. Not that it couldn't, but it wouldn't. People have more imagination. More appreciation for the environment.
