According to this article on CNN they're planning to build the building in 3 MONTHS! INSANE!

whoever believes an 800 meter tower will safely (or even unsafely) be completed within 3 months is beyond stupid.

it's a gimmick, which that base not even the lowest 50 floors are going to rise with the anticipated speed.
however i hope they go with the building of this monster and don't just try to make the media keep an eye for them and promote themselves. i hope they just try building it, man i mean even if it takes 3 years to build it would be breathtaking.

I hope this is just a publicity stunt and that they will not build this...thing!

I'd rather they build it in 3 years than 3 months, even that is a feat.

Let's face it, the chinese have built far more impressive stuff in the past. I hope they build this, it would signal a revolution in vertical living, entire megacities could be erected at newly achievable heights in very short times. From the cost to the speed, we could see clusters of 10 of these supertalls being built at once in a single city. Imagine a $6 billion project to built 10 of these as part of a new Beijing CBD for example? Retain the basic structure (for engineering reasons) and then just clad it differently to add uniqueness to each building.

This is crazy. Must be a stunt, catch, some dissembling language to mollify these unreal claims.

Just building this structure in 5 years would be feat enough. It's massive.

That CCNgo article is laughable; replete with typos and poor facts. Anyway, the 90 day time frame is just 吹牛。

Here's what they did for their previous efforts:

Ark Hotel (15 storeys in 2 days/5.5 days) 7.5 storeys/day (excluding cladding) ~2.7 storeys/day (including cladding).
2012 Hotel prototype (30 storeys in 15 days) 2 storeys/day (including cladding)

The Ark hotel was topped out before cladding commenced, (and that took roughly twice as long as the initial construction) while with the 30-storey tower, cladding was layed on once they reached 5-6 floors.

Sounds like they could build 180 storeys in 90 days.
Or how many?

I can sense the general direction of this thread. First came disbelief and ridicule, then skepticism mixed with disdain, now comes a slow appreciation when reality sets in, which will become outright love and fawning when the project nears completion.

I'm not so confident. They visibly slowed between the Ark hotel and the 30-storey hotel, respectively 133 and 360 hours for construction. It would be quite a feat if they maintained the same speed of construction for this building. The time frame of 6 months they posted in the official PDF (now outdated) seems more realistic.

i surely hope so. this project will either be one of the biggest failures or an architectural achievement that will have the future of skyscraper building.

Can someone give me an explanation about what is going on here ? A 847 meter building in 6 months ? Did I just enter the Twilight Zone, or is there something I am not getting here ?

When I see the situation on The Wharf IFC, also in Changsha, almost submerged under the rain, I think it'll be really difficult even to START foundation work before winter!

I don't know if this tower will really rise, but if it does it will take at least several years.

And that will already be utterly fast!
