In the article they mention that Yuanda Kejian Technology Ltd will build this. How they are in relation to broad? Is this the same company?

The official name of the project in Chinese is 天空城市 (tian1kong1 cheng2shi4) literally "sky city", but they seem to have been calling it 空中城市 (kong1zhong1 cheng2shi4), closer to "city in the sky".

yes i know, but that does not explain why a recent article uses a different name for the tower which also was adapted by ctbuh.

Well they sometimes mentions the construction will take 4 or 3 months starting around october, and another time 7 months. But completion date is always the same - january 2013. So I guess 7 months is the construction time with foundation included, but then again that would mean that they are starting construction pretty much as we speak, and recent news suggest that the project is not approved yet and that they plan building several lower towers first. So we have a bit of information chaos here that I have huge doubts that construction of the 220 floor tower really can start this year.

I totally agree with you, it doesn't matter how fast they raise the structure, the foundation works always take a lot of time, 7 months is even extremelly fast, it uses to take about 12-24 months, so for the completion date of january 2013, they should have already started.

That looks like one of those failed proposals like Houston Tower.

i still think they included the spire to get to that final height so it may only look like this:

but i certainly hope the height is the roof height.

I think the render made for ssp is wrong. Most recent seems to be the one that the model shows. It seems to have plus sing in section. The old one was more complicated.

And yes Killer, obviously, the 847m mark is reached with the spire so this diagram is all wrong.

i have the bad feeling this will be moved to vision soon though. or to on hold when it is in preparation phase. there is just too many things that can go wrong and it is just too unlikely that this will really shoot out of the ground the way they claim it, but damn the wish of it happening is just to strong to give up all my hope

even worldarchitecturenews published article about it. Not surprisingly it's full of doubts.

World's tallest building to be constructed by pre-fab specialist in the next 9 months
The Chinese pre-fabricated building specialists the Broad Group are reportedly planning to construct the world’s tallest building in nine months, in Shangsa, China. The tower, which will be named Sky City, would reach 838m (2,750ft), surpassing the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (828m).

The construction company has a reputation for building pre-fab buildings in record time, but this ambitious building proposal will be on a scale they have never before attempted.

For months, rumours of the project have been circulating in such publications as the Wall Street Journal, which states that the project began planning in April, but concrete information has yet to be confirmed. It has also been reported that the tower will consist of 220 floors of apartments for 174,000 people, with the remaining space designated for a hotel, a school, a hospital, offices, shops and restaurants.

Zhu Lingfang, a member of the Broad Group insisted that despite various concerns, plans to build a structure like Sky City would not be unstable. "Such people do not understand our (construction) model," he reassured the Wall Street Journal. "The tower will be able to withstand a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and it will be able to be evacuated within 15 minutes," Ms. Zhu, also from Broad Group, told the Journal.

Gordon Chang, who writes for Forbes, an online resource for business news, expressed a pessimistic view of the project: "At the moment the central government has yet to give its blessing to Sky City, and many think the building will never get out of the ground."
