Man, that design sucks. It looks like a cheap version of the Willis Tower in Chicago. If you are going to build a super tall it might as well be great design... not this.

I think before anyone jump to the conclusion that this isn't going to get built, keep in mind it has about the same chance as a 300m, 74 fl sci-fi looking supertall residential being built in the middle of the countryside surrounded by farmland, the latter is already completed.

Still, I'd give it another at least 5 to 10 years before actual design would begin.

Ha ha ... good points .
All the same , I'd say that 5-10 is unlikely simply because it's far too long a time for a Chinese project . If it's going to happen at all it'll get started as soon as they've got a building design . There's not much of an appeals process here because you basically grease palms until you get what you want . Chances are that they've already got the cash lined up and will do what most Chinese developers seem to do which is to build on spec . I personally would say that if shovels aren't in the ground within the next couple of years then none ever will be for this project .

They are negotiating the project with 4 cities now: Tianjin, Beijing, Nanjing and Chongqing. According to the latest news they aim to build a tower in each of these cities, not only in one of them, so they may build up to 4x666m.

The erection works would take 4-6 months only (lol!). You probably have seen how they tested their method already:

This method is really VERY fast but this tower block was quite simple, wasn't it ?
It probably would work in very tall (666m) building too anyways. They are using prefabricated elements so it's plain construction. But they must make some changes in the building process for THAT big skyscrapers.
[EDIT] You can watch in higher quality here:
Building a 15/16 storey hotel in 6 days

Reading this thread, so few Americans seem to realise that the tower in Chicago is called Willis tower, not Sears.

People are aware of the name change, they simply do not accept it. Such an iconic building cannot simply be given a new name, take any other iconic tower such as the Empire State Building or the Eiffel Tower and give it a new name, you can be 100% certain that people would still call them Empire State Building and Eiffel tower, because that's their traditional name that is embedded in the public mind.

That bothers me as well. The megatall building probably allways need some sort of core, and usually those are made from concrete. If so that would slow down things for sure. But maybe they are able to construct core using this method just from prefabricated steel parts. That would be quite unusual, but then again the whole idea is new so who knows. One thing is for sure, that would be hell of an interesting construction to watch if it was realised

Since all towers will look much the same I would be more than happy if they would build even just one
