Yes, the first city in the sky (well, actually a building, but you know what I mean.)

9.5 miles is such a short distance, that terrain permitting any highrise, even midrises, can be seen in a clear day

The thing that really excites me about this is that if it's successful it could really decrease the cost of construction skyscrapers, which would have a major impact on our ability to create environmentally sustainable dense cities where everything is within walking distance.

Kids rarely skateboard in China, many rollerskate though.

There's so much speculation floating around in the media regarding this project that contradictory. These updates are about the most reliable info we have on it.

Nope. Somewhere during that time foundation work will be started and that's when the thread moves to the u/c section.

Trying to figure out the elevator times.
So, the fastest elevator today runs at ~16.8 m/sec.
Sky City plans to install the fastest in the world at 18 m/sec.
That makes it about 46 seconds to get from the ground to the top floor.
No a bad commute, I say.

So their elevator speeds are going to be tied? That would be a little confusing.

I'm sure there's something else proposed that's faster out there. I'll check real quick.

That would be about 60 feet for both buildings, but doesn't that mean you'll get to the top of Shanghai Tower faster? Then doesn't the Shanghai Tower have the fastest elevator in the world?

I guess they only do it per second, per minute, etc., and the time it takes from the bottom to top doesn't even matter.

432 and Ping An are both rising at a floor per 4 days, but Ping An's core itself is bigger than 432 Park. So many skyscraper fans said that Ping An was rising faster. Using this logic, Shanghai Tower should have the fastest elevator in the world, because it's shorter than Sky City.

Why would it be confusing? It only means they both use the same fastest model of elevator (Mitsubishi). Seems to me you like overcomplicate things a lot

The map below shows the location of the elevators (and stairs).
The next slide says there are 93 lifts (which am sure are not all that goes top to bottom).

So theoretically if someone lives at let's say floor 168 and is working in the offices at floor 48, it would take him less than 4 minutes to get to work?

Man, that's impressive.
