Heritage Hotels of India

India is a vast country with different styles of architecture and one of the best way to experience the architecture is by staying in the heritage hotels of India. The hotels use to be former palaces and forts of the Maharajas and after independence a lot of them turned them into hotels. There by generating income to keep them in good condition.

Although in some states there is a official "heritage" status in the hierarchy of hotels but I will be posting pictures of hotels regardless of that status. I will also be posting images of new hotels trying to imitate the old ones.

Hope you Enjoy

Bolgatty Palace, Kochi, Kerala

Info: Built by the Dutch in India, Bolgatty Palace is located on the island popularly known as Bolgatty Island in Kochi, Kerala. One of the oldest existing Dutch palaces outside Holland, this quaint mansion, built in 1744, by Dutch traders. The building was then the Governor's palace for the Dutch and later in 1909 was leased to the British. It served as the home of the British Governors, being the seat of the British Resident of Cochin during the British regime. In 1947, when India obtained independence, the palace became the property of the state and was later converted into a heritage hotel resort

Lalitha Mahal, Mysore, Karnataka

Info:The palace was built in 1921 at the orders of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore for the exclusive stay of the then Viceroy of India. Built on a raising ground, the palace was fashioned on the lines of the St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and is one of the imposing structures of the Mysore city.

The palace painted in pure white colour is strikingly elegant. It was converted into a heritage hotel in 1974.

Hey hkskyline I would prefer it if you follow the set layout with high-quality images. So if you don't mind can you please remove the pic?

These are some of the best and the well known places or places to stay at. The exotic experience we would have during our stay there is just like that of a king. These places with just some renovations have converted the once a palace of the kings to the heritage hotels. This is indeed a very good thinking that has been implemented beautifully.

Sardargarh, one of the magnificent forts of Rajasthan, is an extravagant creation by men of a bygone era, placed amidst the mountains and deep forests of Chuppun. Sardar Singh, one of the most powerful Dhodhias, built the Sardargarh Fort during 1738 to 1743. Magnificent fort of Sardargarh is situated 94km north from Udaipur.
