Apollo plans health city in Chittoor

Any updated development/news related to this project from locals in chittoor.

Quote:
Health Knowledge City to come up at Aragonda in Andhra on 100 acres.

Chennai-based Apollo Hospitals is planning to set up a health knowledge city at Aragonda in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

Called the Apollo Aragonda Health Knowledge City (AHKC), this would come up on 100 acres. The hospital has already acquired the land for Rs 10 crore and is planning to promote the project through public-private partnership.
The group is also planning to dilute 5 per cent of the ownership in Apollo Health Hiway to attract investors to its proposed expansion plans.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Apollo Hospitals silver jubilee celebrations here on Thursday, group chairman, Pratap C Reddy said the new city would be operational by 2012. Reddy did not comment on the investment.

The group would train 2,000 people annually in this new city at various levels starting from medical staff, nursing, paramedics, executives and support staff. According to Reddy, this is part of their commitment to create 25,000 skilled healthcare workers every year.

As part of its IT initiative, it would invest around Rs 8 crore to make the hospital paperless and has selected Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) for the project.

On the occasion, Apollo Hospitals today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to facilitate the training programme and also to certify the students.

Both the partners will jointly develop around 45 courses in various verticals including pharma, medical assistance, health management, actuarial science and others.

The courses will start from January 2009 and will be of 3 months to 2 years duration, and will be delivered through a combination of online, onsight and distance learning.

Sangeeta Reddy, executive director, Apollo Hospitals Group, said the new city would have training institutions, nursing colleges, living areas, hospitals and research units. Around 20 acres would be allotted to indigenous manufacturers, she added.

On Apollo Health Hiway plans to dilute 5 per cent of the ownership, Reddy declined to comment saying things were in the preliminary stage.

Amara Raja lines up Rs 190-cr for greenfield project

Source: http://www.business-standard.com/ind...roject/465608/

Quote:
Hyderabad-based industrial and automotive battery maker Amara Raja Batteries Limited is planning to set up a greenfield project and has earmarked Rs 190 crore for the first phase.

“We are almost reaching the peak capacity of lead processing as per the cap set by the ministry in the existing plant at Tirupati in Chittoor and do not have enough land to expand. Hence, we are moving to a new location with a greenfield project,” K Suresh, chief financial officer, Amara Raja Batteries, told Business Standard.

The project will be two-third (60 per cent) of Tirupati plant in terms of production capacity. The company makes products for four verticals - telecom, UPS, four-wheeler and two-wheeler — at its Tirupati facility.
The plant would be developed in the next five years in three phases, he said.

However, it has not yet zeroed in on the location. According to him, the company will also invest in creating utilities including for creating power, sewerage and water plants.

The company last month expanded its production capacity in the four-wheeler segment to 5.6 million units from 4.2 million units. “Now, the trial runs are on, and we expect the new capacity to support the demand coming in the next 14-16 months,” he said.

In the two-wheeler battery segment, it has increased production to 4.8 million units from 3.6 million units.

The Indian OEM (original equipment manufacturer) market size is 14 million units a year. Amara Raja is selling in the aftermarkets and would start venture into the OEM market from the first quarter of the next financial year, he said. The company is in talks with motorcycle manufacturers in this regard.

Under the UPS segment, it has a capacity of 2 million units per annum.

The company reported revenues and net profit in the third quarter of the current financial year at Rs 612 crore (44 per cent increase as against the same period last year) and Rs 65.9 crore (an increase of 65 per cent) respectively .

“We expect to continue growing in double digit in the next 2-3 years,” Suresh said.

On the products in the pipeline, Suresh said, “We will not focus on new products, but more on multiple product ranges in the same category.”

VELLORE: In a bid to help cane growers affected by the ongoing sugar mill workers strike, the Cooperative Sugar Mills in Vellore, Ambur and Tirupattur have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two private sugar mills in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh and Kancheepuram, to crush sugarcane harvested during this season.
“We have signed an MoU with Sagar Mill in Chittoor and SV Sugar Mill in Kancheepuram to crush 35,000 metric tonnes of sugarcane from Vellore, 18,000 metric tonnes from Ambur and 38,000 tonnes from Tirupattur areas in the district. The two private sugar mills have a crushing capacity of 2,500 metric tonnes of sugarcane per day,” said S Thiruguna Iyyapadurai, Special Officer of Ambur Cooperative Sugar Mill during a farmers’ grievance meeting held recently.
The sugar mills have already diverted around 3,000 tonnes of sugar cane to the SV Sugar Mill. “From next week, the remaining sugar cane harvested in areas including Vellore, Tirupattur and Ambur, will be diverted to the two private sugar mills and the crushing will be carried out in full swing,” he said.
Before the sugar mill workers struck work citing disparity in salary, 85 per cent of the cane had already been harvested and crushed in the cooperative sugar mills in the district. “The remaining 15 per cent of the sugar cane would be diverted to the two private sugar mills and crushed within 15 days,” added Iyyapadurai.
The administration of the cooperative sugar mills in the district had also deployed two yard supervisors to keep track of the crushing in the private mills. “We will deposit the cash in the central cooperative banks, which in turn, will deposit it in the accounts of the cane growers in primary cooperative banks. The farmers need not take any extra effort to transport the cane or sell it,” he further stated.

Ultra High Density Plantation technique for mango growers implemented under ‘Project Unnati’

The mango-rich Chittoor district is poised to leave a larger footprint on the country’s agricultural landscape as the mammoth initiative by the Jain Irrigation Systems and Coca Cola have started bearing fruit.

The Ultra High Density Plantation (UHDP) technique stipulated by ‘Project Unnati’ may be heckled by the traditional mango growers, who religiously adhere to the inter-plant gap, but the new system promises a higher yield of up to ten times.

The idea is to prune excess branches and manage the canopy so as to allow maximum light interception in its early years, which allows planting of 600 trees in an acre, instead of a mere 40.
