With an extensive bus network and the proposed new bus network (the news of "no more cross country services, only within town services linking to MRT stations" that was announced months ago), we need that much bus interchanges. Just look at any Transitlink public transport network map and you'll realise we have over 15 bus interchanges, not counting bus terminals. I'm expecting 1 bus interchange to 1 HDB town.

Speaking bus terminals, will they to be air conditioned in future after all interchanges are done?

Doubtful. Bus terminals are on a smaller scale than bus interchanges; some are merely no more than roadside bus stops or bus parking (eg. Marina Centre, Sims Place).

Perhaps St. Michael's might become an air-conditioned bus terminal, due to its de-facto status as the bus interchange of Whampoa estate; Yio Chu Kang is another excellent candidate because of its integration with Yio Chu Kang station (they might even turn at least the concourse level of, if not the entire MRT station, into an air-conditioned transport hub). The rest will probably get some upgrades (proper parking bays, proper/better boarding and alighting berths), or replaced with bus interchanges (Bunoa Vista + Ghim Moh), but nothing more.

Changi Village bus terminal could do with a separate boarding and alighting berth. The current setup is just so confusing and cramped.

.nice work with the pics Mith! most of these are built as replacements for old interchanges for integration so they are not exactly "new" interchanges. i think most if not all terminals will be absorbed to become integrated interchang complexes in the future after all existing interchanges are upgraded except those serving only a single service.

In my opinion, the new Serangoon Bus Interchange is perhaps the best in terms of connectivity as it links to Circle Line and North East Line all in the same level within the NEX Shopping Mall.

By the way, when will Serangoon Bus Interchange move to the NEX Mall? It has been more than 9 months since the mall opened in Nov last year.

I was also wondering the same thing. I guess it is up to LTA to make the decision to move there.

Anyway, Bedok Temporary Interchange is almost ready to be used. It is only a matter of time before they move there.

but the bedok temp interchange will be damn congested. worst is, bedok has the highest number of bus services, next to tamp. there's only one exit/entry. the current one had at least 3 exit/entry.

Woodlands is now the champion with 30 services, while bedok has 29. Although I must say that bedok feels a lot more congested because of the L shaped layout, and movement patterns.

the new integrated interchange will probably be even smaller. its a trend these days. its up to LTA to balance development and comfort with the fleet expansion of buses to greatly improve bus services in the short to medium term.

I forsee the recent policy U-turn with regards to refocusing efforts on improving bus services to drive the plans for integrated transport hubs haywire. interchanges are after all built for the long-term where buses play a more secondary role compared to the next few years.

Commissioning of Serangoon Bus Interchange T-Junction and Relocation of Pedestrian Crossing

Guess the bus interchange itself would be opening soon.

Thanks for the info! Well, it took them quite a long time to open the interchange. It makes me wonder when they are going to open the new interchange in Clementi.

Here is an article on the Serangoon Bus Interchange.

Quote:
Air-conditioned Serangoon bus interchange opens on Sept 3
Posted: 25 August 2011 1310 hrs

SINGAPORE: The new bus interchange at Serangoon will open on September 3.

The US$18.8 million, fully air-conditioned bus interchange is directly linked to the Circle Line and North East Line Serangoon MRT stations via nex shopping mall.

It is the fifth integrated transport hub, where bus interchanges and MRT stations are seamlessly linked with adjoining commercial developments.

The 7,000-square-meter bus interchange will cut walking time for commuters transferring between bus and MRT to between 2 and 2.5 minutes, down from 3.5 to 4.5 minutes.

It also has barrier-free accessibility features, such as lower counters, dedicated boarding points for passengers in wheelchairs and graduated kerb edges to facilitate easier boarding.

The Land Transport Authority said it will construct more integrated transport hubs in Bedok, Bukit Panjang, Clementi, Hougang Central, Joo Koon, Jurong East, Marina South and Yishun.

Existing integrated transport hubs are located in Ang Mo Kio, Boon Lay, Sengkang and Toa Payoh.
