And those damn lights on the walls around the central escalators! You can't see anything on any of the (comparatively very poorly-lit) levels while on those escalators. I'm certainly not impressed, so far.
It was a very difficult site to work with considering it is in the middle of the CBD and is beneath Sydney Tower. They couldn't alter the height of the ceilings because it could have put the stability of Sydney Tower at risk. Perhaps it seems so chaotic because it is the week before Christmas!!

Westfield London is more like a very posh (inner) suburban Westfield but it is still only 149000 sqm. Bondi Junction Sydney's posh inner suburban Westfield is only 22,000 sqm smaller than London's.

Westfield London is still a good 6km from the heart of London's commercial retail centre of lets say Oxford/Regent Streets. It is not like there is a multi-level, 150k sqm Westfield on the corner of Oxford Circus, Westminster.

At least they got rid of "Shoppingtown", that was Lol
I still think they should name the more luxury inner city centre different names. As long as they are still doing suburban malls they will still carry the image IMO.

Stage 2 will see the opening of Zara along with plenty more high end stores like Escada, Bottega Veneta, Versace, Ermenegildo Zegna, a bigger permanent Gucci, Prada and Miu Miu as well as Australian brands such as Ginger & Smart and Kirrily Johnston. Borders and JB Hi Fi are opening new stores as well.

There will be plenty of new restaurants opening on the upper 3 levels including Sassy's Red and Chat Thai. A Becasse Bakery is also opening.

There are plenty of other stores and restaurants that are not yet confirmed for stage 2, this is just about all that I know at the moment

It's just another shopping centre, exactly like Chadstone but with a lil' bit of style. Get over it.

It says on wiki that Westfiled Bondi Junction has 104,000mē of retail floor area while Westfield London has 150,000mē of retail floor area.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westfield_Bondi_Junction
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westfield_London

The largest Westfield of Australia seems to be Westfield Doncaster with 110,000mē of retail floor area.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westfield_Bondi_Junction

And this one (Westfield Sydney) has 93 000 sq m of retail floor area.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westfield_Centrepoint

It seems small but it's pretty much big.

But basement parking to roof-top parking there are plenty of shopping malls in Australia, particularly in Sydney, which exceed four levels. Land and decent land transport is scarce, which makes suitable sites scarce.

Westfield Sydney has no parking however.

And that map is of one floor (out of two) of Chadstone - a giant ugly sprawling morass in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne that is more like what you would associate with a shopping mall.
Thanks!

Without SCP and Myer, the new component is about 40 000 sq m. At present there are around 240 stores. Upon full completion there will be circa 330. 250 of those will be in the new component.

The centre is located right in the middle of Sydney, on both sides of the Pitt Street Mall.

I can't speak for many cities, but Kuala Lumpur has several downtown malls that also exceed 4 floors. Check out Pavilion KL and Suria KLCC, they are two big and impressive malls at least 6 floors each
This type is not common around here. I've been in one mall like this once but it was for lower classes. Thanks for the info!

I'd suggest not using Wikipedia for raw statistics without checking their references first. Anyway these are from the Westfield Corporate site.

^ There's something wrong with the numbers for Bondi Junction. The centre website only lists 374 stores but the corporate website lists 508.
