Camiguin – a mountain climber’s haven
Tuesday, 02 August 2011 00:00 MAMBAJAO, Camiguin - While most tourisst only see the isLand's great beaches, hot and cold spring waters or falls, the place has yet more to offer. As its name suggest Camiguin or "the isLand born of fire", also gives great outdoor adventures and rare opportunities for the visitors to camp near its old volcano crater, as well, as experience crossing through the dense forest and springs, rich of endemic plants and animals. A four-hour upway trek to the summit of Mt. Hibok-Hibok when climbers jump off in Ardent Spring, another entry point is in Tibulid, Yumbing, still in Mambajao town which runs little farther, but taken by those who prefer to camp in for a night. Roberto Rufino, Protected Area Superintendent and Officer-in-Charge of the Forest Management Service of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the province, said visitors are discouraged to camp on the summit for their safety but are accommodated instead to an equally beautiful spot along Mt. Hibok-hibok's old crater, free to indulge on the majestic view of the placid crater lake. Rufino said the crater is safe as its bed is compact, but still they discourage guests of dipping into the water in fear of unfriendly animals. From the summit, where the mossy crater formed from its past eruption can be seen, you get a good view of the nearby White IsLand, Bohol Sea to the north and Macahalar Bay in Cagayan de Oro and Siquijor IsLand to the west. Around its summit are several small craters filled with water, which experts say are really where the burning lava flowed and are now hardened into water containers with bowl shapes and formed into shallow lakes. Climbers are also advised to descend early in the morning before the clouds starts rolling and block the majestic view in the later portion of the day. "Mt. Hibok-Hibok is now fast becoming a popular hiking destination in the isLand and is popularly known among foreign tourist, as almost half of them always go for the climb," Rufino said. He reminded interested climbers to secure permits from their office, adding that no visitors are allowed to climb on the area without guides. "It is important to secure permits and undergo basic orientation, especially, for the first timers and be provided with capable tour guides who are more familiar with the terrain," he clarified. Meanwhile, Rufino noted that Mt. Timpoong and Mt. Hibok-Hibok are proclaimed protected areas under the National Integrated Protected Areas System and is officially called the Timpoong and Hibok-hibok Natural Monument. He also said Mt. Timpoong is a magnet to researchers, as numerous scientific researches were conducted here and have come to identify and fingerprint various endemic plants and animal species. In fact, the smallest known rodent is also found on its forest, Rufino added. pia By JORIE VALCORZA Philippine Information Agency 10

I would like to bring up this topic:
Gakakit-an ninyo ang progress sa Valencia City? Gakaluoy jud ko ani akong mahal nga city kay after bitaw nahimog Mayor si Catarata, wala nay progress among city. Hugaw pajud. Gakasamokan kay ko kay nice unta nga lugar, pero walay urban planning... or kuan ba kaha nga matsada tan-awon ang valencia. Maypang Malaybalay, organize au nga lugar. ang mga sidealk tsada. Wala kaayo basura. VERY GREEN pajud. Among Valencia tawon, drainage ra pirmi ang project. MAy gani kay nasugdan napud ng Market namo. Hai.
