Arrest warrant out vs Delfin Lee of GA housing mess

Quote:
MANILA, Philippines - About two years since the Globe Asiatique housing mess hit headlines in the Philippines, a warrant has been issued on Tuesday, May 22, for the arrest of the man behind the troubled firm.

Globe Asiatique founder Delfin Lee and his co-accused are facing a non-bailable syndicated estate case filed by clients who claimed they were wronged when they bought properties from Globe Asiatique that turned out to be double-sold to others.

According to a statement of Vice President and housing czar Jejomar Binay on May 23, the warrant was issued by a Regional Trial Court in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Globe Asiatique's main property developments, under the brand name Xevera, are located in that province.

Globe Asiatique availed of over P6.5 billion development financing loans from state-owned housing financing agency, Home Development Mutual Fund (also called PAG-Ibig).

The housing agency filed charges against the property and its officials before the Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly sabotaging state-run Pag-IBIG Fund through ghost buyers that took out housing loans from the provident fund's members. Binay chairs PAG-Ibig.

Legal and technical wrangling stalled the case for years. A Pasig regional trial court judge issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop the DOJ from proceeding to file the syndicated estafa charges.

“Globe Asiatique defrauded the ordinary workers who are contributors of Pag-IBIG Fund…We will remain vigilant in monitoring the case until Delfin Lee and his co-accused are behind bars,” Binay said.

Who is Delfin Lee

Lee's is a story on the rise and fall of a businessman once dubbed by his friends as the “Donald Trump of the Philippines” and who has looked up to SM mall magnate Henry Sy. He has aspired to make Globe Asiatique the “SM of Philippine housing.”

He was described as natural entrepreneur with the guts and appetite for risk. He transformed a previous wilderness in lahar-covered village in Pampanga into what could have been a bustling cosmopolitan community called Xevera.

At the core of his business model is a housing product that is affordable but addresses the cultural needs of a community. A typical "township" product, such as the Xevera brand in Pampanga, have top-line features like a school, church, town hall, a wet and dry market, a clubhouse with an Olympic-size swimming pool, commercial areas, an amusement park, and a 3-hectare eco park.

To make the P150,000-worth two-room units more affordable, homebuyers were encouraged to access Pag-Ibig loans. The loan documentation turned out to play a role in his downfall.

Previously, Lee denied any wrongdoing. - Rappler.com

P1M proposed for Delfin Lee’s head
By Nancy C. Carvajal, Tina G. Santos
Philippine Daily Inquirer 2:57 am | Thursday, July 19th, 2012
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/231219/...e2%80%99s-head

A P1-million reward has been proposed for the capture of housing developer Delfin Lee, one of the country’s high-profile fugitives from justice.

“There is a proposal by the Vice President (Jejomar Binay) for Pag-Ibig to offer the reward money,” Binay’s media officer Joey Salgado told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

But Salgado said the money was still subject to the approval of the Commission on Audit (COA).

“Vice President Binay thinks it’s more than a reasonable amount considering that Lee defrauded Pag-Ibig and its members of over P7 billion. If this will lead to his arrest, it should be offered but subject to COA approval,” he said. Pag-Ibig refers to the Home Development Mutual Fund.

Binay earlier said that he would ask for the cancellation of the passport of the owner of Globe Asiatique Realty Holdings Corp. if reports that he had left the country to evade arrest were confirmed.

“If that’s traced abroad, a request will be made to the host country to send him back. It’s like having his passport canceled,” Binay said...............................

COA thumbs down P1-M bounty for the capture of Delfin Lee
By Jerry E. Esplanada
Philippine Daily Inquirer
1:58 am | Friday, July 20th, 2012
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/231761/...-of-delfin-lee

The Commission on Audit (COA) has turned down the request of state-run Home Development Mutual Fund, also known as Pag-Ibig Fund, to offer a P1-million reward for the capture of Delfin Lee, owner of Globe Asiatique Realty Holdings Corp.
The COA said “Pag-Ibig Fund has no intelligence or discretionary funds where the reward can be sourced,” quoting Joey Salgado, Vice President Jejomar Binay’s media officer.
Instead, the agency “will ask Malacañang to release it (reward money) from President Benigno Aquino’s intelligence fund,” Salgado told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Binay, also the government’s housing czar, earlier proposed that Pag-Ibig Fund offer the reward money, saying that it was more than a reasonable amount considering that Lee defrauded the agency and its members of more than P7 billion...............

well, maybe she is or pretending to be innocent???

Other than being the unfortunate daughter of Delfin Lee, so was Divine's business and career in any way connected with Globe Asiatique and was her fashion business also funded by PAG-IBIG? Maybe they should investigate where Divine Lee got the money for her fashion business too but I wouldn't be too quick to judge her for now - where's the innocent until proven guilty thing? she's not even accused yet, is she?

I'm just saying this because assuming my dad does something wrong but I have never asked money from him, I'd find it quite disturbing that if my dad becomes a criminal, that would also make me a criminal even if I have my own thriving business and career? or should i stop living altogether? hide from the world? Why the f*ck would I stop partying and showing up in society pages if I have done nothing wrong, noh? of course, i'd be worried about my dad but i wouldn't be worried about myself.

If we get no response, or a negative response from GA within the month of June, then we pursue an administrative action with the HLURB. We can also give the media a heads up. I have contacts with ABS-CBN and i think sir @bensho is well connected with them.

Divine Lee’s not-so-divine predicament
Philippine Daily Inquirer 7:03 am | Sunday, July 22nd, 2012
http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/58597/...ne-predicament

When news of the proposed P1-million bounty for Globe Asiatique Realty Holdings Corp. owner Delfin Lee hit headlines, heads turned to his very visible socialite daughter Divine. Some people even say she should be included in the charge sheet of people involved in the Pag-Ibig fraud.

According to an Inquirer report, one of the 200 unit owners of Globe Asiatique Tower 2 on Edsa said: “This is hard-earned money and lifetime savings of my daughter they are playing with. While we worked hard to meet payments, Delfin’s daughter, Divine, goes around town and flaunts her signature bags in the social network.”

Although Divine has kept mum about the issue, some netizens took to Twitter to express their disdain for her extravagant lifestyle amid the controversy.

One posted, “While the renters worked hard to meet payments, @DivineMLee goes around the world FLASHING & FLAUNTING those signature bags! #Nightmare”

Another wrote: “Grabe panay travel ni @DivinemLee feeling ko pera ng tao galing sa tatay nia ginagamit nia! Maawa naman sana cla sa tao!”

One netizen posted a question that is on people’s minds: “P1M reward for Delfin Lee re: Globe Asiatique scam. So, did @DivinemLee know about it kaya? #TheSinsOfTheFather #CrisisNiMotherBecky”

But Divine, who has amassed fans from her TV appearances and her social network, also has defenders. One wrote, “This is just sad. I hope @DivinemLee gets through this very trying times…” And another said, “@DivinemLee worked very hard for everything that she has right now. Nobody has the right to take anything away from her.”

In the next two weeks, it should be interesting how this high-profile stylista will deal with the flak resulting from the charges against her father and brothers.

But however she deals with it, a social wag has a rather interesting conclusion—“Whatever you say, her PRs definitely have done a perfect job building up her image through the years.”

Tsk! kawawa naman yung mga nag invest halos nagkakandaluha sila sa sama ng loob..
