Antarctica Freeway

Land transport in Antarctica is usually by foot (skis, snowshoes) or vehicles (tracked vehicles like snow mobiles and bulldozers and in the past dog sleds).

Have you noticed that the "little yellow man" you drag around turns into a penguin?

Hey, there's the McMurdo-South Pole Highway. Would this be the Route 1 in question?

And just in case you're thinking about driving home...

Don't forget the snow chains. Or (as Jeremy Clarkson and James May did, driving to the North Pole) the gin & tonic.

Quite funny that this thread was opened precisely 1 year after we first talked about Antarctica's road(s).

If anybody needs information or do research on Antarctica Highways, a great place to start is on Wikipedia, of course:

This is a nice point, and would have been better if it was 100 % true, but that highway has been mentioned in SSC before that,by myself for instance

What's so redneck about the Ford? The tracks are actually commercially available and are mounted the same way a regular tyre is.
