I hope they immediately start to build a full dedicated ARS line, an elevated line at least within Medan downtown area, and fully double track.
Then perhaps in few years later third-line power source system installed.
But I think its not gonna happen since the Woojin trains to come are diesel.

First time contributing to this thread, and I must say: Kuala Namu International Airport looks pretty modern and roomy indeed, something I truly want to see in a functioning airport. I mean, yes, it has opened recently, yet, I saw in the pre-opening photos a lot of modern features, from streamlined check-in desks and a variety of shops (I'm surprised I saw a branch of Cotton On at the airport), to modern jetways and small plants placed along the waiting areas near gates (I wonder if those are actual palm trees). I then wonder...

• Does the airport now operate international flights (e.g. to Singapore), or are those right now in the making?
• How many gates are there in operation, and are any of those capable of handling wide body aircraft (e.g. A330, B777, B747)?
• How many runways are there at Kuala Namu, and how much space is there for future expansion where needed?
• How many terminals are there at the moment, and what thresholds will need to be met (e.g. targeted number of passengers per annum) so that expansion plans can be made and done in an appropriate timeframe?

They're most likely just fake pot trees (just like what you'll find at luxury apartments in Medan)

+ Yes, KNO does since the former MES already had international flights
+ 12(CMIIW), and the 8 jetbridge gates.
.. one of them:

+ One and there's some space for expansion without further land expropriation *
Please look (extra space on the upper part of the airport seen on the picture)

+ One terminal , 8,1 million passengers per year, no idea.

Medan has some international flight from MES before the airport activity moved to Kualanamu. So the airport just continues the recent flight.
Just say, Kuala Lumpur, Penang both operated by Air Asia Group (AK and QZ) and MH, Some by Indonesia's airlines such as Lion Air and Sriwijaya. Singapore by Silk Air and Value Air, Don Mueang Bangkok by Air Asia Group (QZ and FD). and newly opened route Colombo Srilanka by Mihin Lanka.

• How many gates are there in operation, and are any of those capable of handling wide body aircraft (e.g. A330, B777, B747)?
Kualanamu is prepared to landed the wide body even for A380. And the aerobridge has been designed for WB aircraft. The jetways extension can be placed, once it's needed.

• How many runways are there at Kuala Namu, and how much space is there for future expansion where needed?
For this time, KNO still using one runway, but when all the third phase completed, it will use two runways.

• How many terminals are there at the moment, and what thresholds will need to be met (e.g. targeted number of passengers per annum) so that expansion plans can be made and done in an appropriate timeframe?

There are 1 terminals at this moment, but first of 4 gates for international flight with the rest for domestic flight.

I'm pretty surprised at how modern, clean and efficient KNO is, especially for a smaller city like Medan. But, what else is unfinished at the airport?

Let's be fair. Time will be the best judge. Give it 10 years and we shall see if it can maintain as well as KLIA, HK International Airport, Changi Airport, or maybe Shanghai Pudong Airport. Then that will be a truly international airport.
