The name doesn't matter, the copied BBCode would copy your photos original file names.

As long as you can click on it and link it back, it should be ok.

Ok back to the demolition then ...

Most of the piles of rubble have been cleared up.

You can see a big hole in the ground near one of the towers - lots of exposed metal (old foundations?)

Don't know about a time, but you can watch it on a big screen on campus.

Aston University towers to be blown up as part of regeneration project

Demolition Day – on Sunday May 8 – will create university history, with the event the first time two towers have been razed to the ground on a fully operational campus.

A total of 1,500 students will be evacuated on the day but will be able to witness the demolition at close quarters from a big screen on the campus.

The Aston Student Village and new research centres will see the campus transformed by 2014.

The first phase of the £215 million village programme was completed late last year, providing more than 1300 en-suite bedrooms.

Stage two, which will provide another 1050 en-suite rooms by next year, will commence with the demolition of Dalton and Lawrence Towers.

A university spokesman said: “Due to the proximity of the towers to other buildings, businesses and major inner city roads, we will be establishing an ‘exclusion zone’ around the site, evacuating three student residences, and closing certain roads and footpaths in the area.

“However, the main University building and the Students’ Guild will remain open as the demolition will take place in the examination period.”

A few more shots from today.

They have been rolling the land flat - even saw a steam roller rolling the land flat near the towers.

How'd you get it without the fence?

I use my mobile so obviously can't stick it through the gaps.

Did you get any of the Woodcock gym or the council offices further down?

Also the landscaping outside the library.

They did dig up the road last week (near the university library) but have put the bricks back in.

It's my compact camera so i can stick the lens through the fencing. Although i still want a DSLR it does give me advantage in that i can stick it through different holes and gaps (excuse the puns) .

The gaps are quite small though. If I had my main camera on me, not sure I'd be able to stick the lens through.

My mid range camera has 12 times zoom, so DSLR's could zoom in quite far here.

Walking down Aston Street and James Watt Queensway earlier today I saw some big banners on the towers.

I haven't taken photos of them yet.

One is about some charity trek on some mountain.

Got some pics today of the banners.

From James Watt Queensway you get a better look at Lawrence Tower and it's banner

They have put black material at the bottom of each tower (looks like black bags)

Yes it has changed a lot. And they have cleared a lot of rubble out of the way in the last month or so.

Latest pics ...

From Jennens Road (this view will change after 8th of May 2011)

How big will the exclusion zone be when the towers are exploded?
just wondering how close we'll be able to get/ road closures etc.

From my understanding, the campus plus surrounding roads (A38/James Watt Queensway/Jennens Road/Woodcock Street) although I don't recall if this is confirmed, I know what residents will be left will be allowed into the guild but the main building is closed. I was going to sneak into the main building to photograph the whole thing but work has ruined my plans by requiring I be in London all blasted day

I would dearly love to be there when they kick out any student lazy enough not to have bothered going somewhere else for the weekend at 6:30AM on a Sunday morning....
