Which one has a nice ring to it?
I'd go for Hyundai, Samsung, or Sony.

Samsung has already given out naming rights.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_arena

It's a sports venue in Slovakia, of all places.

Can the same company give naming rights to several different venues?

I don't know how this corporate wrangling works.

I would definitely fire the branding group if Slovakia got an exclusive on sports facilities naming rights. In theory, even if they did, they can be bought out for a fraction of the value of such rights in LA.

Yes! The last time I looked O2 had the naming rights to four arenas here in Europe.

If the stadium is built, then I bet Allianz wouldn't mind buying the naming rights for it. However, would they face the same type of opposition in LA as they did when they were in negotiations to buy the naming rights for the New Meadowlands Stadium?

Are you referring to the Jewish opposition?

I gotta believe Allianz would get the same problems as in NY.

So is it going to be: "Samsung Stadium at Hyundai Events Center"

Don't forget At&T likes to sponsor everything under the sun and they don't have a pro football stadium yet...

And not that it would have any bearing on it, but it would fit in with the cell phone theme of names with the Nokia Theater and Club Nokia across the street.

that makes no sense because their old stadium the RCA dome had a fabric roof and it held up just fine. the architects made a mistake with Lucas Oil i believe.

Anyway, I think the only teams that will really work here are the Raiders, Rams, or Chargers... teams that have already established fan bases in LA. Anyone else would just be the Clippers of the NFL. People would come to games but who would really care?

But honestly, I dont think that matters to AEG. They only want this stadium for the rights to host superbowls, final fours, and world cups, and concerts. an nfl team to them is just secondary, but its a way to sell the stadium to the government and the public.

Fabric roof domes like that are held up with air pressure and act more like a geodesic dome. It performs well under heavy snow loads, but would be impossible to build a retractable roof stadium using a system like that.

I personally like Lucas Oil. It feels like a really big fieldhouse, which is what the architect was going for.

If a team that didn't have an existing LA fanbase moved there, it would not take long for people to accept them as their own. They may not become rabid fans overnight, but it will happen over time.

Remember that not only the Rams and Raiders, but the Lakers and Dodgers were well establilshed teams in other locations before moving to LA. Yet they caught on.

I'm willing to bet that the new stadium will look like this:

At least I'm hoping that the architects won't go for a retractable-hole-in-the-domed-roof design- like Cowboys Stadium and UOP Stadium.

The mechanized, retractable roof will bi-part lengthwise into two retractable panels- like Lucas Oil and Reliant.

But I agree that the retractable roof should be made out of translucent "Bird-Air" fabric. There's no need to have a solid roof in California weather.

^ Great job with the LA River too. And it would be nice to have Mark Sanchez back in town.

I would assume that the roof would never be used for football. The worst weather likely even at night is about 50 degrees and raining or some hot days in August/Sept, which shouldn't bother real football players or fans. So the convention uses would seem to dictate the nature of the covering.

But I suppose local fans might want climate control anyway.

Why not the Lakers of the NFL? Where was the Minneapolis fan base when the Lakers moved to LA? There's no reason to presume that any team that moves here will go 1-15 five straight seasons. Are you saying that the fans of Los Angeles won't embrace a playoff contender?

There's also the fact that the Raiders, Rams and Chargers don't have the fanbase here that some like to believe. Check the TV ratings and they don't rate so well in the city. They rate better than most games, but it's not so significant that they would be stepping into much of a bigger fanbase than any other team.

It would take some time, for people to embrace the team, is what i was trying to say. If any of those other 3 move to town, they would have instant credibility with the fans. Anyone else would have to earn their trust.

Basically the Clippers reference meant that people would go to games, but they wouldnt really care if the team won or lost, they would just go for the experience to see an NFL game. Nobody cares if the Clippers are good, people just wanna see the other NBA teams come to town and play in a top rate arena. Its a good option because its cheaper than a Lakers game.
