I was thinking of that, but one also has to note that many of these aviation news routes also apply to the local airport. Right now, there's just so much duplication in threads - I'm hoping we can consolidate this and remove some of these levels.
Definitely, I agree, perhaps there should be a bit more focus on specific regions. Here is the UN Geographical Subregions map. Maybe our threads can be based on these regions: North & Central America (incl. Caribbean) South America (existing thread) Europe/Russia Africa Middle East/Southern Asia (incl. Western Asia, Central Asia, and Southern Asia) Eastern Asia (incl. China, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea) Southeastern Asia Oceania (incl. Australia, New Zealand, and South Pacific Islands) The thing is, some regions have regional threads, and others don't. Those that don't put it in the airlines thread or airport thread. |

@deasine, good idea.
Could you please put these threads together? and name it as: ALC | Alicante Airport http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...licante&page=3 http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...light=alicante http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...light=alicante Thanks! |

I think regional threads exist because there are no local / airline threads. That's fine for threads with less demand, but to consistently apply this principle across all countries / cities may mean a lot of more unvisited threads.

I'm still considering some form of consolidation because there's just too much repetition, particularly within the Asian region. The only problem I think I'm seeing is some threads both serve as the regional aviation news threads in addition to local airport threads.
That being said, if threads are "merged," they won't be literally merged together. I'll start a new thread with the region name, and copy all existing posts from the included countries into the regional thread and close those threads. That way, if we want to revert back to having individual country threads, it can still be easily done and managed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Note, I've closed all threads without activity since 2009. If users want to reopen a thread, one must make a request via PM to me or on the thread finder. Or, one can start a new thread, which is what I personally advise. I've also started a temporary new airline index that will be merged back into the Thread Finder. I've included an airline fishtail navigation method so that the thread doesn't look so dry and boring. It's taking a while to add some of the fishtails as I need to photoshop some of them, so please be patient with me. If I left any airline threads that haven't been added to the list, please let me know. Note: all threads that have been closed will not be added to the thread finder indexes. |

The other issue I've noticed is Airplane @ threads. While they have a great collection of photos of planes at X airport, many of the X airport threads also have pictures of planes. What does everyone feel about a merger of the threads?

As long as it is consistently done across all threads, then consolidation is OK. I had initially hoped it would attract spotters and they'll post their pictures in a photo-only thread.

AsianDragons has already started the SE Asia Aviation News & Discussion "superthread" for the region, and so I've decided to close existing country threads and have them simply use the one superthread. That way, all discussion is in one place.
Keep in mind, for more local discussion, please continue to use the airport threads. I'll be adding the local airport thread links and airline links to the SE Asia Aviation News & Discussion Index (first post) later on. We'll give this thread a try first, see if it's good or not. If it doesn't work out, I'll gladly dismantle the thread and forward those related discussions and posts back to the individual country thread. In the mean time, I'll also evaluate on this and see if this can work for other regions. We can reduce the number of country aviation threads by having a larger regional thread for general news and discussion, and have a more local level news and discussion thread for individual or city regional airports. |

I am having a major concern with the air port of central london with a huge rush of plane traffic everyday which is going under some renovation work due to expansion of their department as I was informed from one of my friend in Wembley point in london.

Am i the only one who think the Airports and Aviation section is still very confusing? Dividing it into world regions (like it was already proposed by deasine) would be i good solution i guess.

- Some regions do it by airline & airport: North America, Japan, Europe (most) - Some regions do it by regional aviation threads: China/Hong Kong/Taiwan (some), Southeast Asian countries My goal of the aviation forum is to promote much more airport and airline discussion because regional discussion normally happens in the regional forum. Any thoughts? |

I've been monitoring the forum and still haven't seen a lot of individual country aviation discussion amongst the nations in the Southeast Asia region. I'm still toying with the idea of only limiting aviation news and discussion at a regional level (for thread consolidation and improved navigation purposes), airport level, and airline level.
