Calgary LRT is actually street-running downtown much like Portland, Houston or Dallas, but I agree with the rest.

Saw this thread bumped and remind of a movie, Stigmata, that has a scene featured in the Pittsburgh subway.

Pittsburgh transit agency preps for light-rail track replacement
9/30/2016

The Port Authority of Allegheny County next week will begin replacing nearly 800 feet of light-rail track at a curve near the Station Square station in Pittsburgh.

Crews will replace aging tracks in both directions that have reached the end of their useful life, port authority officials said in a press release.

To complete the work, the agency will restrict service through the Mount Washington Transit Tunnel, which runs from Station Square to the South Hills Junction station. Service will be restricted Oct. 3-22

Pittsburgh needs to expand its light-rail network

I grew up in Pittsburgh and worked there for a decade before moving to Philadelphia for a job. One thing I’ve learned from cities like Philadelphia, St. Louis and Boston is that a regional rail system makes commuting easier and cheaper[...]

Effective this week, it is no longer free to ride buses downtown. The "Free Zone" box in the SE corner of the map will need to be updated.

Welcome PAT's new CEO. She is coming in from Tampa, where she was the CEO at HART.

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Quote:
This is the kind of attention to detail Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and the Port Authority are expecting from Katharine Eagan Kelleman as the agency’s new CEO: She wore a black-and-gold scarf to her introductory news conference Wednesday.

Ms. Kelleman, who will start here in January after nearly four years heading the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority in Tampa, Fla., has a background in transit planning and previously worked for transit agencies in Baltimore, Dallas and San Angelo, Texas. She has a five-year contract to replace interim CEO David Donahoe and will earn a base salary of $230,000.

Cresting

Quote:
Running as a shuttle to Washington Junction, PAT car 4230 crests the hill between the Mesta and Lytle stops on the Blue Line Library Branch on a hot day in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, in the South Hills several miles south of Pittsburgh proper. Unlike most of the rest of the Pittsburgh area's light rail system, the Library Branch was not rebuilt with new catenary overhead and welded rail; it also retains many suburban-trolley style flag stops, giving it quite a bit of character.

Washington Junction refers to Washington, PA, one destination for Pittsburgh Railways interurbans. Taking what is now the Library Branch from the junction, interurbans ran to Monongahela City, Donora, Charleroi, and Roscoe.

Lytle, Bethel Park
Quote:
Heading for the end of the Library Branch, a one-unit PAT Blue Line train departs Lytle stop in Bethel Park. The line here is guarded by classic, mainline railroad-style US&S ABS signals. Until the early 90s, the Montour Railroad (abandoned in the early 80s) crossed the trolley line here on a bridge, roughly above where the platforms are now.
