Patrick's visit to Tokyo / 東京 2010 - (1/4) :)

Last october I finally went for the first time to Tokyo! Here is the first series (of 4) with pictures I made during my one week visit. Maybe short, i know, but i thought a whole lot of things were expensive. I was wrong, next time i will stay longer

I flew with KLM Dutch airlines directly to Narita and after customs and getting my lugage I bought ticket for the Skyliner. I got off at the endpoint (Ueno station) and walked along Asakusa dori to my hotel for that week, Oak hotel. I had a western style room with bed and private bathroom.

I very much enjoyed my stay in Tokyo. Yeah its huge, but its very clean, very safe, has some great pieces of architecture, great foods and friendly people!

1.

View from my room at the hotel.
The first days it was rainy/drizzeling rain but from monday on I had good weather.

2.

Walking towars Senso-Ji, Tokyo Sky Tree wanted some attention peeking through the clouds.

3.

'Thunder gate' @ Senso-Ji.

4.

Hozomon Treasury Gate @ Senso-Ji

5.

Tempel grounds @ Senso-Ji

6.

Main temple building @ Senso-Ji.

7.

Typical street near tempel complex.

8.

For a sunday morning it was allready busy on the streets, with lines to the pachinko slots

9.

I found these typical Tokyo living streets. Mainroads had bigger building but streets behind that with those one way routes for cars had en specific feel to it.

10.

After visiting Senso-Ji walked around in several areas towards the Tokyo Sky Tree.

11.

Calm streets of Tokyo.

12.

Bamboo Sky Tree

13.

Awesome view with monster at end of street

14.

Took this pic on 10th october (486m tall) Its huge!!! Fantastic structure to see in real live!

15.

Streetscene near TST.

16.

Looking up!

17.

Colour bridges at Sumida river. I never guessed those freeways in Tokyo are onlyu 2x2 lanes wide!!

18.

Asahi brewery.

19.

Part of Asakusa from Azumabashi bridge

20.

View from a hotel where a friend stayed, which I met in Tokyo (forummer NegaSado)

21.

Zoom, zoom. Densly packed!

Next stop Akihabara (I needed a plug in (europe to japan style for my battery recharger....

24.

Crossing Chuo-dori with Harumi dori: Wako Building.

25.

Walking main street on sunday @ Ginza!

26.

Nice facade! Yamaha building in Ginza

27.

Walking allong Chuo dori towards Shiodome area.

28.

Ginza is expensive real estate, whats that little building doing there

As said walking towards Shiodome area. Nice area with skyscrapers
29.

Capsule hotel!

30.

Green glass of Shiodome, Shiodome City Center.

31.

Typical wide skyscrapers of Tokyo. We took those elevators in Dentsu Building (213m). First time ever for me that my ears got irritated in an elevator. Great design by Jean Nouvel.

32.

Sharp as a knive!! Great edge Dentsu!

Next Going up!
33.

View from 48th floor towards Tsukiji.

34.

View from inside elevator towards Emperor Palace and skyscrapers around Tokyo Station.

After that we took the subway towards Shinjuku. Skyscraperstown Tokyo Offcourse we went up the skydeck in the north tower to look at sunset and dusk views of Tokyo, we want to see all those red lights!

35.

AWESOME tower!!

36.

Nice area beside skyscraper district.

37.

38.

In Japan you use more floors of a building, here in the netherlands they should learn from that IMO!

39.

40.

Nice views from 45th floor. Also nice it was free of charge!

41.

Shinjuku = skyscrapers district!

42.

Some thing on the horizon

43.

'Looking down' on Shinjuku Sumitomo Building (210m).

44.

Mirror, mirror on the wall whats that tower?

Patrick,

Your effort in adding comments to the pictures (which are very good) is very appreciated. Tokyo is the true Mecca for us Urban-lovers.

You should be getting much more replies.

Cool photos! My uncle who's well-travelled just got back from a visit in Tokyo too, and he said Japan's society is the most advanced and most civilized he's ever seen!
