Patrick's visit to Tokyo / 東京 2010 - (2/4) :)

Going forward with Part 2

Pictures below were made on monday 11 october, it was a national holiday in japan (Sports day).

first went to the emperor palace, after that went to St Luke's Garden Towers and then with the unmanned subway/metro over Rainbow Bridge toward Odaiba island. After my visit to that area I walked back towards tokyo over the Rainbow Bridge during sunset.

With the Ginzaline towards Marunouchi, got off @ Mitsukoshimae, so I could walk trough several areas before getting at the palace.

56.

Old and new together, tower was built in 2005 and itches the 200m mark; Nihombashi Mitsui Tower.

57.

Sotobori dori, one of the widest roads I came upon in the Tokyo area. Lots of officebuildings and towers at this street which is near Tokyo Station

58.

Tokyo Tower as seen from the parking lot in front of emperor palace area.

59.

Very old vs. new. One of the buildings from the emperor with at the opposite side the towers of de officearea Marunouchi.

60.

Skyline of its own, Marunouchi.

61.

Other part of emperor palace near the double bridge.

62.

Statue of Masashige Kusunoki @ Palace Plaza; samurai 14th century.

NExt stop for me was the Tokyo International Forum by architect Rafael Vinoly.

63.

This is public space!! Lots of green and places to sit and relax!

64.

Awesome design!

65.

TIF from inside. Glass roof, glass facade.

66.

Towers near Tokyo Station seen from in front of TIF.

After that i walked towards St Luke's Gardens. In the tallest tower you can go to the top floor.

67.

Streetscene walking towards St Luke's.

68.

Wide street, partly freeway! Pedestrian walkbridges did their work for me Looking towards Shiodome area (Dentsu Toren)

69.

Again.

70.

Even in the sidestreets you find nice new devellopments!

71.

Your typical Tokyo streets

72.

Saint Luke's Garden Towers.

I went up but top floor was taken because they had a wedding party there Still made some pics of the views.

73.

Views like this (Tsukuda & Tshukishima area) lots of residential buildings and towers.

74.

Zoomed in a bit.

75.

Other part of the island with residentials in Tokyo Bay.

76.

Temple Tsukiji Hongan-ji

After this I took the subway towards Shiodome area because from there i could take the Yurikamome; nobody drives those trains but they go to Odaiba island and to get there, it takes you over the Rainbow Bridge.

77.

Got out @ Daiba station with nice view of this well known building; Fuji TV building.

78.

Great view at Rainbow Bridge with skyline behind that

79.

Roadlanes of the Rainbow Bridge, residential towers and the Tokyo Sky Tree.

80.

National holiday or not construction never stops @ Tokyo Sky Tree.

81.

Tokyo Bay is used for lots of activities on and around the water.

82.

Well they like the version which stands in Paris so much they copyed that one!

83.

On Odiaba Island.

84.

Tokyo Big Sight

I walked back accross the Rainbow Bridge and enjoyed the views of the city during sunset.

85.

Zoomed in at the Shiodome area with its skyscrapers.

86.

Tokyo Tower and skyline(s)

87.

Walking across your views constantly changes, now skyline with Tokyo Tower, Roppongi Hills Mori Tower and even the twins from Tokyo Metropolitan Building.

88.

Zoooom.

89.

Tokyo Sky Tree apears everywhere!!

90.

The main span of the Rainbow Bridge (580m between the pylons)

91.

Lights and lines @ Rainbow Bridge

92.

Tokyo skyline and harbour @ sunset (1)

93.

Tokyo skyline and harbour @ sunset (zoom) (2)

94.

Tokyo Tower and nice boat

95.

Sunset at Rainbow Bridge.

96.

Boats with a skyline during sunset. Bling!

97.

Zoomed.

98.

It just fits Tokyo Sky Tree between two skyscrapers.

99.

Rainbow Bridge.

100.

Rainbow Bridge, great lights!

After this I went to Shibuya.

101.

Shibuya neon.

102.

More neon, lights en advertisement in Shibuya.

103.

Shops in Shibuya

104.

Shibuya shopping and dining.

105.

Lots of shops, restaurant etc in the little streets of Shibuya .

And this human-scale development sits within a metro home to 30 million.

I envy you. I got very bad weather when I was in Tokyo back in Easter.
