There's three supertalls under construction (Shanghai Tower, Pingan and Wuhan Greenland), one tower under construction that is 597m, and many other 600m+ buildings, as well as at least two buildings 700m+ seriously proposed.

China will have MUCH more than two megatalls within the next decade.

Wuhan is the 6 or 7 biggest city in China with about 8-9 million people and it is going to soon become a megacity within this decade. China is double the population of Europe and it's too big to only have Beijing and Shanghai as the only megacities of China. Guangzhou and Shenzhen are already megacities. There is room for at least 8 megacities in China.

The current megacities in China are:

Shanghai
Beijing
Guangzhou
Shenzhen

These WILL become megacities within 10 years time:

Chongqing
Wuhan
Tianjin
Chengdu

These are "wild-cards" that might have the potential but are not expected to become any megacities.

Xi'an
Nanjing
Shenyang

What do you count as "megacities"?

Don't forget Changsha, Dalian, and Wuxi.

And in 15 or 20 years, I can count about 35 chinese cities that will have at least one tower over 1,000 feet in roof height.

i guess i didn't make my point very clearly. i wasn't arguing that wuhan doesn't need large structures like this. i am aware of the size of lesser known cities. i lived outside of wenzhou (9 million people including the counties outside of the city proper) for a bit and i know these cities exist. my point is that this is a truly stellar design IMO and i wish it was in a higher profile city. even though cities like wuhan can justify the construction of these buildings, i really doubt they will ever become international destination cities like beijing, shanghai, etc.

I can see that those cities can come up to at least Seoul's level in international "known-ness"

So why does the title read 636m, if there are 606m numbers written everywhere by the models/site?

606m was the first height, then they raised it to 636m to beat shanghai tower and claim tallest in china (they apparently do not know about ping an)

The Eco Tower Wuhan Center was originally designed to rise approximately 606 meters (1,818 ft) and house 119 stories, with a total floor area of around 3 million square meters. Based on initial plans, it would be the second-tallest building in China upon its completion in 2017.

The adjustment may require its height to surpass that of the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, which is currently being constructed as the country's tallest building.

I guess they are claiming the roof top is the tallest, not spire
