I don't know, but probably, because new stations generally do. Heaters at the Chicago L stations are flimsy ones as I recall.

Side note: No new track was built for this station. Rather, a former station which got demolished was rebuilt after a number of decades.

2015.06.01 - Evening round-trip on Purple Line Express

http://evanstonnow.com/story/busines...le-express-run

Quote:
CTA to test evening Purple Express run

In a move city officials will help stimulate business for downtown Evanston restaurants and perhaps encourage more people to live and work here, the CTA has agreed to test adding a new evening Purple Line Express run to its schedule.

The express service to and from Chicago's Loop now only runs during the morning and afternoon rush hours -- with 23 southbound trains during the morning rush and 24 southbound trains during the afternoon rush, with the last one leaving Davis Street at 6:37 p.m.

At other times Purple Line passengers have to change to the Red Line at Howard, which makes all local stops enroute to the Loop -- substantially lengthening the duration of the trip.

Johanna Nyden, the city's economic development division manager, told residents at a joint 8th and 9th ward meeting Thursday night that the test will run from June 1 through July 10.

The evening train will leave the Linden station in Wilmette at 8 p.m. and arrive at Clark and Lake downtown at 8:50 p.m.. and then return to Linden by 9:52 p.m.

Ylda Capriccioso, the city's intergovernmental affairs coordinator, who's been working on setting up the test, says the CTA has told her it will need to see an average of 468 people riding the new train each night to consider the test a success.

Nyden says the city is planning a publicity campaign starting this spring to try to drum up ridership for the test.
I think they should run Purple Line to the Loop throughout the day and on weekends. The equipment is there - the question is if the demand exists. Maybe once Wilson Station express service begins in 2017.

With an abundance of residential towers in Central Chicago, I would think that, to get to their daily jobs, most people would just walk a couple of miles (or a few kilometers). I would have to imagine, for example, somebody living in Steeterville walking that kind of distance to the 233 South Wacker Drive Tower (or Sears/Willis Tower) every weekday.

Not counting the people from other community areas who commute to and from Central Chicago every day via the 'L' and the METRA rail lines.

Charter a CTA Train

Throw an 'L' of a party on a CTA train

Finding that unique venue for your next party, event, meeting or group excursion just got easier.

Chicago's world famous 'L' trains are available for chartering, with prices starting around $1,800 depending on the size and length of the event. By chartering a CTA train, the limits of your venue become the limits of the city itself.

From the Downtown Loop through Chicago's unique neighborhoods to the outer reaches of the city and back, CTA trains offer a unique, and ever-changing, view of one of the world's most beautiful cities.

Trains are available for chartering any time, except weekday rush hours (approximately 6-9a & 3-6p).

Food, non-alcoholic beverages, decorations, battery operated sound systems and live music are all permitted. Each car holds approximately thirty-five (35) people comfortably.

$350 million Superloop streetcar system being studied

March 5, 2015
By Dan Kolen

An old mode of transportation not seen in Chicago since the 1950s may be coming back if the Chicago Streetcar Renaissance (CSR) group has its way.

The group is conducting an extensive economic analysis for a more than six-mile streetcar system, which would start at Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station and extend to Navy Pier, McCormick Place, and the museum campus.

Whenever I see a Metra train, Source Code comes up in my mind. Chicago has an awesome public transportation system, and it seems that it's always improving.

So many passenger derailments across the country recently, it's hard to keep up.

The latest one involving a Metra loco on the Northwest Side of Chicago.

hmmm.

Wild guess?

It split the switch. The front truck tried to take the tracks in the background/left, while the train was supposed to go right- and the switch was set between the two trucks passing.

I would assume the number of people who walk has increased greatly as the number of housing units downtown has exploded. Also Divvy, the bike sharing system that is around 18 months old now. As of last summer around 400,000 trips a month were being taken, most around the downtown area.

Total housing units downtown:
1991: 49,000
1994: 50,000 +2%
1997: 52,000 +4%
2000: 59,000 +13%
2003: 74,000 +25%
2006: 86,000 +16%
2009: 103,000 +20%
2012: 107,000 +4%
2015: 119,000 +11%
