According to a roster at another site, the 2600-series cars are now officially gone from the Red Line, leaving only the Blue and Orange Lines to operate them. The Red Line has far more 5000-series cars assigned to it than what it needs, so lets see if CTA moves some over to the Orange Line to replace the Orange Line's 2600-series cars. If the Orange Line does get 5000-series cars, I presume they will use the lower-numbered cars with the tan interiors.

Does the CTA have plans to replace the current trains being used? Those trains are so outdated.

?? Much of the system has cars that are only a few years old, a large number of the very old car series have been fully retired in the past 2 years and the remaining cars from the 80's/90s on the Blue, Orange and Brown lines are being replaced in the next 5 years.

Indeed. I think that the whole fleet is currently within design lifecycle norms. And I seem to recall that the 3200s are actually planned for premature retirement simply to get everything running with faster-accelerating AC motors. In other words, they are planning to get WELL AHEAD of lifecycle.

Kiewit selected to renew Chicago Green Line track
10 Dec 2015

USA: Chicago Transit Authority approved a $13m contract for the Green Line West Track Renewal Project on December 9. Lowest bidder Kiewit Infrastructure Co has been selected to replace the track between Laramie and Harlem/Lake stations at the western end of the CTA’s Green Line.

Work on the 4 km section will cover replacement of sleepers, baseplates and fasteners, as well as transposition of running rails at some curves, ballast replacement and surfacing work. CTA says that the last major track renewal on this section took place in the 1980s, and 75% of the sleepers are now approaching or have already exceeded their useful life

Happy Holiday? CTA Holiday Train & Bus? So it's not Christmas any more?
And there is no more Christmas tree either? Just 'Holiday tree'?
Who's that guy in red then? Its not Santa Claus any more? It's a Holiday Claus now?

So pathetic!
