Thanks for taking these great pictures! Its too bad the CTA doesn't use this bridge on a daily basis anymore; its fun to look at!

CTA, Public Transportation with a Personal Touch!
I was impressed with the motorman on this Purple Line train as he red inspirational quotes in between stations.

Montrose station pre-renovation.

I got my Panasonic DMC-LF1 camera back from the repair shop. On Tuesday night, 26 April, I was on the Blue Line “L” and opted to make one more stop at the Montrose station. I have used the Montrose station extensively since 1978, due to horrid winter weather causing crush crowds on westbound #77 Belmont such that I could not board one at the Belmont | Kimball station. By riding to Montrose, I could walk over to Cicero Ave. and have a very good chance at being able to board a southbound #54 Cicero bus.
Here are the photographs I took of the station this night. There will undoubtedly be more photographs of it as the renovation continues. Let these be the before images.

CTA to buy more electric buses

The Chicago Transit Authority announced plans Friday to spend between $30 million and $40 million to buy 20 to 30 new all-electric buses over the next several years.

The average market price for a standard-size electric bus is about $800,000, CTA spokesman Jeff Tolman said. That's hundreds of thousands of dollars more than a traditional diesel bus. Tolman said the timeline of the purchases will depend on a bid process among manufacturers.

The first two buses each cost about $1 million, or about twice as much as a diesel bus, and started on six downtown routes.

I would be curious to know what a compressed natural gas (CNG) bus would cost in comparison?

It's compared to the same quarter of the previous year, not the preceding quarter of the same year. There are always fluctuations throughout the year with some quarters being traditionally busier than others so comparing different quarters of the same year isn't that relevant.

CTA consults on plans for Chicago Red Line extension
Friday, September 30, 2016

CHICAGO Transit Authority (CTA) announced on September 9 that it will publish a draft environmental impact study (EIS) on October 6 for the proposed southern extension of the Red Line from 95th Street to 130th Street on the city’s Far South Side

The 8.5km extension will significantly improve access to the rail network in the south of Chicago, with new stations at 103rd street, 111th Street, Michigan Avenue, and 130th Street. All four stations will include bus and car parking facilities

I finally completed a map of Chicago. Not easy to fit the enlarged downtown loop into the city grid.

Well done, though a legend would help to clarify Amtrak.

You may want to include some tourist destinations, but that's a low priority.

Also, keep an eye out for proposed service changes on METRA. The South West Service is supposed to be transferred to LaSalle St. in the near future. And you seem to be missing the branches in the Rock Island District.

You should lift the layer of the Orange line up to be above the Red, Purple, Pink, Brown, and Blue lines. Also the Green line above the Purple and Brown lines.

Direction arrows on the lines on the Loop that go one way would be helpful.

The Adams/Wabash station on the Green line is missing.

@00Zy99
Thanks
I try not to use a legend, I want the maps to be plain intuitive. I think the train icon is enough for Amtrack as there are no other long distance train services.

@Arnorian
Thanks for spotting these. I corrected the map.
My main goal with the loop was to separate the brown line which is the only that runs counter clock wise from the other lines. And then I forgot the arrows...

Part of the reason its not intuitive is because Amtrak only uses electric trains in the Northeast Corridor. Also, there is talk of having a private contractor operate some trains in the area.

My advice would be to use a copy of the Amtrak logo instead.

Here are a couple of good picks:

This one is a bit outdated, but its in a circle, which is good.

This is the current logo as it appears on maps. You may need to crop it and put it in a circle, however.

Interesting map, although with the letters, I would have used "Br" for the Brown Line and "Pk" for the Pink Line. This distinguishes them from "B" for the Blue Line and "P" for the Purple Line.
