Thanks for pointing out, I just realized today that I posted some of the same images twice.

Anyways that would be awesome if you can post some of your own photos.

Sorry if this question was already asked but how many of the EL's stations are underground?

Only the red and blue line stations are underground, and even that only in the downtown area.

The CTA is testing the 5000-series rail cars on the Green, Blue, Orange, and Brown Lines.
These cars will have new propulsion systems, regenerative braking technology, and an improved layout & design.

Renderings of the reconstructed Cermak-Chinatown Station. This renovation should modernize the station and bring it up to ADA standards, as well as add aditional faregates.

Grand/State Station Renovation

Rendering of the proposed remodal/renovation for the Grand/State station. This will make the station ADA compliant, add escalators, and add an expanded mezzanine with new Customer Assistant kiosk and more turnstiles and farecard vending machines.

Map of the proposed Metra STAR Line which will directly serve the outlying suburbs without entering Chicago. The route consists of the median of the Northwest Tollway (I-90) and along the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern (EJ&E) railroad corridor.

It is proposed that this rail corridor will be served by Diesel Multiple Units.

METRA

Here are some pics from my recent trip to Chicago. We used Metra to get to McCormick place for the marathon expo and the El to get around. I can proudly say that we did not use a taxi once in the trip.

Metra Van Buren Station

Metra TVM in McCormick Place station (with me looking awful...it was an early morning)

McCormick Place Platform (it is under the center, so it looks like it is under ground)

Metra Electric line...the only railroad to be electrified (aside from rapid transit services) outside of the Northeast United States....

Here is a map of the current "slow zones" on the "L" where trains are limited to speeds of either 35 mph, 25 mph, or 15 mph due to the deteroriating track conditions.

http://www.transitchicago.com/assets..._11_09__10.pdf

As of right now work is still being done to eliminate slow zones on the Red/Purple Lines (which is almost finished) and to fix the signaling system on the Orange Line.
