O-Bahn guided busway in Adelaide, South Australia. Specifically built for buses, not cars.

Obvious enough?

Apparently not.

they build all that infrastructure, but can't build a remote control barrier/crossing gate?
the signs are obvious enough of course, but people break rules and they probably didn't expect a special road with no middle

anyway serves them right hehe

The white van driver may pretend his vehicle is a small bus. One may think a "busway" is meant for all kind of buses.

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified, six-car monorail!

Due to Photobucket f*cking up, most images won't be visibile in my old posts. If you need anything specific, please write me.

Dont be silly, people are just acting dumb: meh, I know it's not gonna work but it's shorter: try it anyway. Its like people here driving their cars over a special raise in the middle of a road where only busses can drive over and then accuse city officials that their car is ruined. People are just stupid

Probably a dumb question, but is there any point to not completely covering the centre part of the surface over? Apart from a deterrent for non buses?

From what I've heard it's something to do with the clay soils in the river valley in which it is built, which move a lot between the dry summer and wet winter. The track is on sleepers which are in turn on their own sunken foundations, so it's about half a metre off the ground.

Something like that anyway.

of course they are. thats why you need a barrier with a remote control for the busdriver, because thats a lot cheaper than all the delays in the bus service, time of people travelling, the damage and cost of rescuing stuck cars etc. etc.

I have another question. As you allready said that's busway but the type of construction seems to be (use) for trains. When they constructed those lines the first use the thought was for trains or buses?

For further discussion and questions about Adelaide busway or O-bahn, first read and consult http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O-Bahn_Busway. It's all written there. No need do be offtopic with it.

The idea was you can have something that goes fast and doesn't have traffic problems like a train, but still be able to visit suburbs like a bus. The guided busway meant they can go fast without the wide space required for motorway sized lanes as it runs down a river valley behind houses.
