I love art deco but think that scientology building looks terrible and tacky painted in that horrible blue. It would look much better in white or a nice pastel shade and without the TACKY scientology sign.

Some people are just ignorant as hell....

Manila actually has many art-deco buildings all built when the Philippines was still an American territory.

unfortunately, many are left to rot like the Metropolitan Theater...

...and some were even demolished like the Jai Alai Building...

...and some are forever destroyed during World War II:

Fairmont Royal York is not Art Deco, sorry to say. It is châteauesque.

Not exactly skycrapers, but very important for the stylistic development of Art Déco.

All from Amsterdam:

Shipping House Amsterdam - 1916

By some this building is seen as the first Art Déco, or Amsterdam-school style building, while still containing a few traces of Art Nouveau.

Amsterdam - Tuschinsky

Could also be seen as a transition between Art Nouveau and Art Déco.

Amsterdam - Bazelgebouw

The Hague - Bijenkorf

This beauty still stands.

Rotterdam - Postoffice

Utrecht - Postoffice

Also worth mentioning: A new project in The Hague:

- Re-interpretation of Art Déco?

I want to thank the many people who have contributed to the topic of Art Deco skyscrapers.

However there are more than a few pictures of neo-gothic, neo-classical, and post-modern buildings that probably should not be included here among the true art deco masterpieces of the 1920s and 1930s.

The style we call Art deco now was called just called "modern" at the time; a possible rule of thumb is that if a building constructed during the 1920s and 1930s takes a historic style and simplifies or streamlines it, it might be art deco. If the building copies a historic style exactly down to the smallest detail such as historically accurate Corinthian Capitals or flying buttresses, then it is a revival of that style and probably not art deco.

The last sentence from following post made earlier this year actually made me laugh out-loud!

Skyscrapers over 750:
1. AIG, 952 feet, NYC
2. 40 Wall, 927 feet, NYC
3. GE Building, 850 feet, NYC
4. One Atlantic Plaza, 820 feet, Atlanta
5. 191 Peachtree, 770 feet, Atlanta

NYC and Atlanta are pretty much the only cities with major Art Deco buildings.
(I think those familiar with the architecture of Chicago and Detroit in particular and other cities like Indianapolis would disagree.)

In the above list, all of the NYC buildings were constructed during the Art-Deco period of of the late 1920s to early 1930s while the Atlanta buildings are all post-modern structures.

Perhaps people should consider posting only original art-deco skyscrapers here and create a separate discussion thread on Neo-deco or Deco-echo buildings.

Well it's not quite a skyscraper but it is art deco. The Bucharest Palace of Telecomunications.

I didn't have Dubai towers in mind when thinking of art deco.
