Platform move part of redevelopment plan

NAUGATUCK — A plan to move the Metro-North train platform to enhance economic development downtown appears to be inching closer to reality.

Up to $35 million is expected to be allocated for the project as part of a larger plan by the state Department of Transportation to improve the Waterbury Branch of Metro-North Railroad, borough officials said.

1. Why, oh why, force the reporter to be on the site at night for a live shot? So silly.

2. The objections make sense. Though the argumentation presented is lacking. Saying "this is 2016!" isn't exactly a persuasive argument.

3. There also needs to be harsh criticism against how the building is just parking. Have retail on the ground floor at the very least. Even better would be to clad at least the front facade with small residentials. Seriously, urban buildings aren't hard to create.

Are there any plans for service expansion on the table aside from Danbury-New Milford and New Haven-Springfield?

Also, are there any updates on electrifying SLE?

Official Plans
  • Restoring Rail Service between Waterbury , New Britian and Hartford
  • Central Rail service between New London & Brattleboro , comes with Freight Rail upgrades
  • Infill Stations have been proposed on the SLE at Niantic
  • Infill Stations have been proposed on the New Haven Line at Orange , Devon (Milford) , East Bridgeport & East Stamford
  • Infill Stations have been proposed on the Waterbury Branch at Wilbur Cross Parkway & Devon (Milford)
  • Infill Stations have been proposed on the Danbury Branch at Wall Street (Downtown Norwalk) & Georgetown
  • The State is looking to replace the Cos-Cob , Walk & Old Saybrook Bridge
  • Re-Electrification of the Danbury Branch
  • Addition Infill Stations on the Hartford line at Hamden & Long Meadow?

Unofficial or dead plans
  • Waterbury Branch extension up to Torrington
  • New Haven LRT or BRT Network
  • Griffin LRT line (Downtown Hartford to Bradley Airport) & (Downtown Hartford to Manchester)
  • Infill Stations on the SLE at Old Lyme & East Haven
  • Stamford LRT or BRT Network

I know that they've tested the M8s on the SLE last year...but I haven't heard much about Electrification of the rest of the tracks... They still need to upgrade a few more stations before the M8s can roll on that line...

Also I think that ConnDot and the MTA will probably want to exercise the Option for the additional M8s
