sanj, for the last time, I know!

But the ATO deem it not clothing claimable for work but the local government deem similar clothing to be necessary for work.

The point I'm making is that clearly there is a case that this kind of clothing could be deemed an expense of working therefore a case for allowing it to be tax deductible.

Even if its just safety gear they can claim it is still the majority of their work wardrobe that can be claimed.

I can see where your frustration would come in. I've had to wear office clothes and then crawl under peoples desks and fuck around behind dusty computer racks. Have had a few shirts and a pair of trousers ruined because of it.

Surely the ATO could give us all a break and recognise we need to buy clothes for work. I mean it might not be $700 designer shoes but throw us peasants a little something.

That's the exact reason why those staff members I talked about wore casual clothes, not everyone sits neatly at a desk all day. I've ruined good clothes that way too. I hate how purely desk based people give you grief for what you wear, friggen get one wear out of a nice outfit because you have to do the groveling in the dirt that is a part of your job. Don't start me, it's got much worse since city engineering firms have absorbed a lot of those technical professions, they're constantly bitching and moaning about the practical realities of taking on those roles while being quite happy to skim massive profits from it. Worse resourced and supported now than when family business ran them.

Maybe it is justified in a city job to ask for an allowance if you're expected to look good and to get down and dirty at the same time?

In terms of a tax deduction, how would you stop people exploiting it though Ryan?

These days I don't have to do that anymore (except when I travel to mine sites and then I can wear casual with hi vis).

But now I do have to meet with managers and directors of companies where looking shit isn't an option.

How can you have any perspective about our jobs, you've not the faintest idea where our pressure points are.

The only reason I'm able to even spend the time on here is because I've chosen to go out on my own. If I worked in that industry as an employee I wouldn't have the time or energy to be on here. Yet you manage it, which says to me you've not any idea of what the pressure is. Perspective yourself!
