Once again, thanks for taking the time to post these pictures. I suspect that these stations are today unique in the world.

When you look at those train stations they look more like airports than train stations (IMO). Still in the idea to compete with travels by plane.

wow.... that's not expansive at all!!!!! I'm never taking a flight from Beijing to Shanghai again. Last time I was in China my Beijng - Shanghai plane sat on the freaking ramp for 2 hours before it took off. The train would have been half way there.

63U$S at 250km/h and 85 U$S at 300km/h for 1318km.

in Spain, Madrid-Barcelona 621km at 240km/h average speed is 118,5 euros, 167 U$S
Paris-Marseille, less than 800km is 104 euros, 140U$S.

speed down is a perfect strategy for optimizing transport at this stage.

well, 2nd class fare should have been RMB582 for 350km/h trains from Beijing to Shanghai. now it is only 5% reduction in price, but 1/7 reduction in speed.

plus, no price reduction for first class seats. also huge price increase for D-train first class seats.

btw, this famous 'expert' is wrong again. even if the MOR had not reduced the fare as it promised, most fans knew that it won't be more than RMB582, or the worst case RMB598. now 5% reduction off RMB 582 isn't too much, but at least MoR did lower the fare a little bit.

Second-class fares from Beijing to Shanghai will likely cost about 600 yuan to 650 yuan, said Zhao Jian , a professor at Beijing Jiaotong University, which specializes in rail engineering and management.

the deputy minister of railways said in the press conference that the main reason to reduce the top speed of operation is that MoR wants to put more slower trains (and thus cheaper) in operation. since mixed running of 350km/h and 250km/h is 20% less efficient than mixed running of 300km/h and 250 km/h according to their study, they chose the latter mode. He also emphasized that it is not due to safety issues.

This is not something new as many people suspected mixed running was the main reason. It also explains why top speed remains 350km/h on Shanghai-Hangzhou HSR and Beijing-Tianjin ICL because 350km/h and 250km/h works fine on short routes. The thing is, the new minister of railways had to use safety as an excuse to reduce the speed. He successfully undermined CRH's safety reputation by that remark, and now it turned out it is not even true. Stupid.

Schedules

Have any trip times at 300 km/h and 250 km/h been officially disclosed?

no. I am surprised not a single reporter asked about the schedule.

The only informative messages are about the fare for Beijing-Shanghai HSR and why MoR decided to reduce the speed.

may i ask what's the average airplane ticket price between Beijing and Shanghai? one way and round trip (since round trip price is usually not doubling the one-way price). I just want to see how much of a difference it is compared to the train tickets.

the speed of contruction is just amazingly fast. Is this waiting hall bigger than the one in Shanghai or Guangzhou? this looks insanely huge. And are they going to install any seats in the middle?

seats will be installed soon, and that won't take much time.
the main waiting hall(58 thousand m^2) of Nanjing South should be much larger than that of Hongqiao(11 thousand m^2), not sure about Guangzhou South though(I am not sure if its 77 thousand m^2 is for its main waiting hall).

a full priced economy class seat on most flights costs about RMB 1100 for single trip or RMB 2000 for round trip, but you can get discounted ticket as low as RMB 500(single trip) or 1000(round trip) during low season. extra RMB 160 for tax and fees. Now airline companies even offer some RMB 400 economy class seat to compete with the HSR.

For single trip flight, it takes about 2.5 hours. But only 72.6% of the flights between Beijing and Shanghai this year were on time(after sacrificing on-time rates on other air routes), and that is already a huge improvement from last year's 45%(could be as low as 32% in last July). During summer time the rate significantly drops due to thunderstorms and typhoons.

If the original plan of high speed trains running at 380km/h was carried out, then it would be disastrous for the airline companies.

I understand that a major reason hampering high speed traffic Nanjing-Beijing is that there are just 2 tracks, full of 250 km/h trains.

How about Nanjing-Shanghai? There are 4 high speed tracks. Is it feasible for 250 km/h trains to get through Nanjing to Nanjing-Shanghai high speed railway?

sure. for instance D trains from Wuhan to Shanghai travel on Nanjing-Shanghai ICL after they reach Nanjing.

For comparison, existing daytime D trains (200 km/h)
2nd class RMB 327, 1st class RMB 409.

Yes. It is 4h48 min for one stop G trains from BJ to SH, the second fastest G trains take 4h55 min, and the D trains 7h56min.

IMHO, 555Yuan for 1318km in 4h48 min is not bad.

While under 4 hours would be superbe, 4h48m for the entire trip is still impressive. Compare to HSR, commercial airline trip rarely takes less than 4 and half hours, including 2.5hr flight, and 1 hr each to the airports as well as clearing security.
