They should make the curves for 350 km/h. When N. Korea collapses, the line could be extended to Seoul. Around 1200 km from Beijing to Seoul, travel time could be 5 h.

By the time North Korea collapses this railway line might already be ancient and due to a complete overhaul.

Air carriers raise prices after high-speed rail lost competitive edge

Quote:
"Before the operation of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway two weeks ago, people were expecting it would deal a severe blow to airlines. And various air carriers offered big discounts on tickets between China's two biggest cities to hedge the risks. But frequent train malfunctions are causing it to lose its competitive edge." Hopefully the performance and people's trust in the railway will improve due time. It was a huge and costly project.

Demand is crazy in China.. As I wrote before, high speed rail network is the best thing could have been done.

Also, I think the airlines realized that they are crashing their yield (profit margin) by setting the ticket price too low. They would be much better off cutting the number of flights and raise the ticket price to make more money.

airlines can always adjust the ticket price according to demand. but train fare in China is fixed, and may not change for over a decade once the price is set for a certain seat class. The MoR mentioned there might be a flexible pricing system in the future, but keep in mind that MoR was once sued for increasing the fare by 20% during spring festival years ago (it was actually temporary cancellation of discount during hot season rather than fare increase ), so unless the so-called flexible system is to offer more discounts, it won't be easily accepted by passengers.

CSR is quite proud of the performance of its CRH380A. So far all the train-related glitches happened on CRH380B.

test will start in August, and it will open by the end of this year if the testing goes smooth. Shenyang and Changchun are two major stops on the line.
