The wording of various news reports seems to suggest it's the new PDL on which the accident happened. The first train lost power so stopped and the signalling might have been affected but details are a bit unclear at the moment.

Wow, what a catastrophe. My thoughts go out to all those who lost their lives or relatives in today's crash.

Is it known, what kind of rolling stock was involved in this accident? From the pictures, it looks like one of the trains is the Siemens-built Velaro CN, but I am not sure of that. Can anyone elaborate on this?

Apparently, the derailed train was the oldest first-generation model that was not built with Siemens/Kawasaki stuff.

It was a CRH1 rear-ended by a CRH2.

Very sad news especially in light of the recent scandal. There should be a full review of the HSR's safety.

I guess train was driven at 20-25kmph, as just one car went of the bridge fully. So i guess ATS did work out. The question is why it took train so long to stop on emergency breaking? Defective breaks?

Dispatching station, drivers of the two trains, there must be fault with one of them, should be a human failure instead of ATS fault

ATP(列车自动防护系统)不工作,原因不明

Seems like ATP malfunction. The driver of D301 take emergencybraking, his last moment action saves many lives.

I'm deeply saddened by this tragedy, D trains have had a four year safety record and now this. If it's indeed ATP malfunction then somebody will be held accountable for it.

In the same region, the lightning struck the D3212 train as well and caused its power outage, no one is reported to be hurt yet.

People should never fully rely on automatics. Front train driver should have been contact dispatcher using autonomous connection device (mobile phone at last) to report situation.

After all, what dispatchers were thinking about if train disappeared from the line? If not - how did it happened second train passed red lights?

Reading some witness accounts it seems that D3115 has already restarted and moving at a very slow speed when the impact occurred.
