Dude, it is a real photo, those people wear same thing because they are custodians or security.

This is some gutsy person, I would not dare stand next to a HSR train going at over 200km/h.

On the other hand, this one is pretty harmless.

Yeah, crazy. I never quite realized how fast these trains were...I took the maglev when I arrived in shanghai then took the K train to Nanjing...I thought I was a nervous flyer, but being in a plane pales in comparison to the anxiety I felt being in that train

Well the caption indicates it went 190m in 3s so that translates to 228km/h.

Part of a larger planned metro or just a service train?

Not a metro line but a piece of underground rail to connect the tracks between the two railway stations.

Okay, that's what I thought. Just wasn't sure if it was just a segment of a planned metro they were building.

Wait... when i took the Beijing-Tianjin HSR in July, it went from Beijing South to Tianjin without problems, and when i took the Beijing-Shanghai HSR from Beijing South a few weeks later, it went past Tianjin West with no problems.

So why would a tunnel be needed in Tianjin for HSR's from Beijing South to Tianjin West, when HSR's are already going to both Tianjin West and the regular Tianjin station from Beijing South?

Maybe a map will help to explain your comment

Beijing-Shanghai HSR from Beijing South doesn't past Tianjin West.

With this tunnel, a train from Jinan and Shanghai can go to Qinhuangdao and Shenyang directly, skip Beijing.
