If true, then this is nearly on the scale of London's Crossrail, but the radio silence suggests that something has gone horribly wrong.
All I know is that the path of the tunnel matches digging work at Chongwenmen that has been going on since at least 2010, which matches this project and no future metro plan. Something gone horribly wrong is a possibility.

Last year or so there were rumours that Bejing Station would turn into a VIP station, which didn't happen either, and which would make no sense combined with this project.

Regarding the Beijing Underground Diameter Line, it appears there was a test run on 2014.12.30, but it is not clear when revenue services will begin.

Here's a video of the MTW 160 in action by Plasser and Theurer:

I guess this is supposed to serve the same function as the BR711?:

That's a fantastic piece of infrastructure! Any early news about the passenger numbers? As good as further East?

Now they are going to DOUBLE UP on all heavily trafficked HSR lines?

Oh My.

This is very common with China HSR.

250 rated rail will run at velocities of 205 to 247kph.

It all depends upon the route, timiing, volume, the driver, etc.

Sometimes the velocity drops to 80kph - it all depends on the route, rail, if it is moving on to older rail stock as it approaches a station, etc.

204.7 kph average speed for such a journey is median across China HSR rated at 250.

I hope they go with CIT 500 nose. I loved that design since I saw the model of it.

^ I don't think so. It takes a long time to reach that kind of speed. Looking at the record speed run of the CRH380A, the news reports said the entire distance covered was some 220 kilometers. You would either need long flat stretches of land (such as the floodplains of eastern, coastal China) or a mostly downhill route.

Given that this is in Western China (hint: lots of mountains + risks of high-altitude running), I don't think CRH will attempt record breaking there.

(Although there might be an incentive for them to use the line to beat the French record due to the relative thinness of the air at high altitude).
