I think it sort of reminds of the Shinkansen 500 series, like a stunted twin.

in china, are there "european style" hs operations where a train begins on regular track / small towns and then goes onto the fast track for the final leg of the journey?

Sorry couldn't resist
Anyway that's one weird topic to discuss in an HSR thread.
Inspired by the table of maintenance, which is all Chinese.
So is emptying of toilet tanks one scheduled maintenance of HSR trains?

First hand pictures of tracks precise adjustment on Nanjing-Anqing PDL from Baidu Tieba

Precise adjustment of tracks is the last step of track laying procedures, it plays a huge part in ensuring the smoothness of high speed railway tracks.
It doesn't normally attract a lot attention since all the works come down to just millimeters of adjustment, still I find it fascinating

Thanks to someone working on this line for posting a lot pictures on BaiduTieba, we have a chance to see how it's been done.

Here it begins

All started on 02/07, access lane

Workforce waiting for clearance to get on the tracks

On the tracks

Fastening machines

Close look, nothing high-tech
