The PRC have always thought Taiwan as part of the PRC.

Hence they're treated like a rebel separatist movement.

Standard EMU of CRH start commercial running on Beijing-Guangzhou HSR

These two trains are the standard EMU of China HSR. There is no doubt that they become the focus of china rail fans today!

At present, China's standard EMU of CRH is about to produce off the assembly line. In the future, they will become the main models of China's high-speed rail, to further improve the quality of people's travel.

No, CRH5 is based on Pendolino, this is entirely new design i think.

Also, does this have a top speed of 400 km/h? Seems so from the name, but wasn't the operational speed 350km/h?

It's said that the train ran smoothly and quiet at 300km/h . So it has the probability to operate at speed 350 km/h or even 400 km/h .

I've just been watching another video where China Rail specifically define HSR as "not less than 200km/hr" and it made me recall the Hangzhou-Ningbo-Shenzhen line. They change crew at Xiamen North. On the southern sector Shenzhen-Xiamen Nth speed was mostly about 204km/hr. Northwards it was 197km/hr. Same train, same sensors, same guages; same crew behaviour going south one day, north two days later.

Heheh, they're starting practice with the Hongkong-Macao tunnel/bridge (I know, road only), then when they've got that sussed they'll connect Hainan Island to the mainland. Nr. 3 is the Bohai Straight, and after that Taiwan should be a walkover

Does Shenzhen-Maoming go via Guangzhou South, or further south?

No, it crosses the Pearl River in Shenzhen near the northern side of the airport. It will interchange with the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity railway at Xiaolan, then through Zhongshan. There is a separate HSR upgrade from Guangzhou to Maoming in the pipeline, creating a triangular Guangdong HSR network.

There is another unrelated road bridge-tunnel too in the same area.

Present tense is not appropriate as there is no such line today (though a technically less demanding HSR route Maoming-Guangzhou South seems to be under construction), the HK-Macau/Zhuhai link isn't finished, and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan link hasn't started.

According to Wikipedia it should tunnel under Pearl River (Xiaolan-Zhongshan-Bao'an-Shenzhen North), other articles lead it north to Guangzhou South (and then Humen - Shenzhen North). This article seems to imply both.

Timing also seems inconsistent. 2017? Q3 2018? Later? Never?

Given that there are two coming delta road crossings, the upcoming Hong Kong-Macau/Zhuhai, and the Bao'an-Zhongshan connection slated to happen in a few years, the detour to Guangzhou would be a significant delay for a Pearl River crossing.

The present tense was for the present planning and construction work, it was not meant to represent a complete whole line. The western segment is under construction between Maoming and Jiangmen (due for completion in 2018) and the geotechnical work has begun for the tunnel beneath the Pearl River and associated preliminary works relating to Airport North station's construction. Full scale construction of the tunnel and trackage, from Shenzhen to Jiangmen, is expected to start in 2018.

Construction of a new high-speed rail link between East China's cities of Hangzhou and Wenzhou

Quote:
Work begins on PPP high-speed railway in China

Xinhua | Updated: 2017-03-10 09:17
HANGZHOU - Construction of a new high-speed rail link between East China's cities of Hangzhou and Wenzhou began on Thursday and is expected to be complete by 2021.

The Hangzhou-Wenzhou line stretches about 331 km and is China's first public-private partnership PPP funded high-speed railway project by the National Development and Reform Commission, with the private sector having holding status.

Upon completion, travel time between two cities will be more than halved from 2.5 hours to about one hour. Passengers can also transfer to Beijing and South China's Guangdong province via the new line.

The Wenzhou-Hangzhou high-speed railway is part of a national initiative to establish a modern, integrated transportation system laid out in the country's 13th five-year plan (2016-2020).

China has the world's largest high-speed rail network, stretching more than 22,000 km, while its total rail network is over 124,000 km.

By 2020, the length of high-speed railways in operation is expected to be around 30,000 km, connecting more than 80 percent big cities.

I made a Google map of Pearl River infrastructure, with high-speed rail, intercity rail (existing and planned) and the two Pearl River crossings (HK-Macau/Zhuhai and Shenzhen-Zhongshan).

The HSR and IC lines are partially based on incomplete information (stations marked with ? or ??).

My assumption is that existing slow rail will either be classified as freight or intercity/Pearl River Delta Rapid Transit, same with future rail.

The primary source for the map at current is Wikipedia. The HSR Pearl River crossing (Xiaolan-Airport N) doesn't make much sense for me, it would be inconvenient both in the Zhongshan-Macau/Zhuhai-direction and the Foshan direction.

Better would be something like Jiangmen South-Zhongshan North-Minzhong South-Airport North. I added an "alternative" layer for this proposal.
