It isn´t. The map even has an inconspicuous compass rose. Northeast is on top.

Interested more the subject of the Metro.

Nice info. Based on this difference looks more like ~35%. Who knows. I would love to see an official research document about this.

So, Xining-Xian is 4:26.
How much would be trip times Xining-Beijing? Xining-Shanghai? Xining-Shenzhen?

Thank you!
It will be difficult to find a more official document, Is carried out by the World Bank, main financier of these works.
The only thing is that it is 2014; Now the difference will be lower because they have lowered the costs of construction of tunnels and viaducts.
I put the link back in case you had not seen it:

Note that both 8 % and 35 % are right.
8 % is the difference between the most expensive lines (169 and 183); 35 % is the difference between the cheapest lines (70 and 94).
However, since the costs in 250 km/h group cluster in the bottom (just 2 of all are over 100) while the 350 km/h group rises higher (3rd most expensive is about 170) the real difference is even bigger - 70 %!

Also, it was estimated costs. Now that a lot of lines have been opened, can anyone update with actual final costs?

And does anyone know the costs of new built 200 km/h and 160 km/h lines for comparison?

The east-west line is called XuLan = Xuzhou - Lanzhou, so I'd expect to have to change trains at Xi'an. The line westwards is called LanXin = Lanzhou - Xinjiang, so to get to Urumqi might need another change of trains at Lanzhou...

Fastest train Urumqi-Xining is D2708, taking 10:10.

Would it make sense for a Silk Road train to depart Urumqi in an evening, pass through Silk Road desert at night, and passing Xining in the morning continue through China Proper by day?

China starts construction of Lanzhou-Zhongwei high-speed rail line

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/20..._136378047.htm

YINCHUAN, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Construction of a major high-speed railway in northwest China started in Zhongwei city in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Monday, according to the regional government.

The Zhongwei-Lanzhou high-speed rail line will link Zhongwei and Lanzhou, capital of neighboring Gansu Province. It is scheduled to measure 218 kilometers with a top-speed of 250 km per hour.

The line is expected to open in 2022.

The line will connect with another high-speed rail line linking Zhongwei with Yinchuan, capital of the region. Travel time between Lanzhou and Yinchuan -- the two major cities in northwest China -- will be shortened from the current 10 hours to just two hours.

The new high-speed rail line will play a very important role in the construction of a high-speed transport route linking the northwestern region with central and eastern areas of the country.

Shall any high speed railways link Yinchuan to Baotou, Taiyuan or Xian?

Consitutional fast-track for Sino-Thai rail project

Quote:
Thai Premier Prayut Chan-o-cha has invoked a special law to push through the Sino-Thai railway project, as the kingdom strengthens its ties with Beijing.

In an order published on the Royal Gazette website on Thursday night, the junta chief used a constitutional clause, called Article 44, to waive the legal restrictions preventing Chinese engineers from working on this project.

The document also allows the Thai rail authority to bypass normal procurement procedures and hire a Chinese state enterprise to do detailed design work as well as construction consulting. Costing has to be completed in four months, it added. "This project has faced many obstacles, especially from legal limitations," it said, and special treatment was necessary "to deepen the bilateral relationship and bring great benefit to people".

It will be great when this station and Chongqing West station opens later this year. It will interesting to see what services will terminate at Shapingba. Then Chongqing North can then complete it's renovations for the South Hall.
