Tokaido Shinkansen is around 500 km, but connects the largest three metropolitan areas in Japan, so its importance and popularity is undoubted, and no wonder it is the most heavily traveled HSR on the earth. 154 trains means that on average one train in roughly 7 minutes(operating time is 6 am-24pm, right?) each direction, impressive indeed.

Wuhan-Guangzhou hopefully would add more trains, especially when the Wuhan-Beijing section is completed. However if one would like to compare two lines on the same level, I think the future Beijing-Shanghai line would be more comparable to Tokaido Shinkansen. Well, we'll have to wait 1~2 years to see its performance.

For reference, some years have passed since 2000.
Does anybody know how many passengers Tokaido Shinkansen had in its actual first 12 months of operation?

Is any of the above lines upgraded existing lines? I'm not 100% sure but I thought Chengdu and Guiyang are connected via railway.

Almost a million passenger trips a day, I wonder how high that number will get before Lunar New Year.
