Bridge across Kudaganar river at Vedasandur inaugurated
http://www.hindu.com/2011/02/21/stor...2152130600.htm
National Highway 209 connecting Dindigul and Bangalore through Coimbatore, Sathyamangalam, and Mysore would be converted into a four-lane, said Highways Minister M.P. Saminathan. He was inaugurating a new bridge across the Kudaganar river at Vedasandur and laid the foundation stone for a new overbridge at Akkaraipatti railway gate near Oddanchatram in Vedasandur on Saturday. “The work will commence shortly. Around 104 bridges across railway gates in the State have been sanctioned and work commenced at several places.” The proposed overbridge over Palani-Dindigul railway track at an estimated cost of Rs.19.65 crore will pave way for an easy flow of traffic to western parts of Tamil Nadu from southern districts. It will be completed within 24 months. Only 32 km left Almost all State highways stretching 10,549 km have been converted into two-way. Only 32-km-long stretch in Valparai has been left owing to hilly terrain. There is no one-way in State highways in Tamil Nadu. Efforts were on to convert district single roads into two-way, he added. Revenue Minister I. Periasamy said that the new bridge constructed at a cost of Rs.6.19 crore at Vedasandur would benefit 20 villages. Residents of Vedasandur, Oddanchatram, and Reddiyarchatram will get Cauvery drinking water before elections, as work under Cauvery Combined Drinking Water Scheme (Phase II) was almost over. Steps would be taken to include Urali Gounder community in MBC list, he added. Mr. Periasamy said that the Government had offered PWD building for Sub-Court for Vedasandur. But judicial officers did not receive the key so far. Lawyers struck work demanding a building for sub-court. He said that several court buildings were constructed without expecting matching grant from the Central Government. Vedasandur MLA M. Thandapani appealed to lawyers not to boycott courts . Dindigul MP N.S.V. Chitthan said that a majority of schemes had been implemented with Central funds only. The Minister also inaugurated bridges near Athoor Akaraipatti, Kombayanpatti, Poothampatti, Velagoundenpatti, and Nagampatti and laid the foundation stone for a new bridge across Lakhmanampatti-Iyyampalayam Road. |
