The major problem with NM is that it has a higher dust particle issue than anywhere else in greater Mumbai. Bear in mind that there are mines in the northern hills off Vashi and almost everyday, there are blasts carving out another deeper hole into the hills.
Add to it the industrial + vehicular pollution that you have going through the NM area. It can be argued that vehicular traffic is still minimal as compared to highly concentrated areas of Mumbai downtown. However, anyone living in NM will attest to the fact that you wipe your furniture and in the 2nd minute onwards, you have another layer of dust. Most of NM streets and roads have a very high level of soot / grime coating its walkways/footpaths - and that's only on street level. Go up on any terrace of any building and you will see a greying / moss infested exterior - add to that the high humidity in general . My other pet peeve about NM roads like Palm Beach and other roads is that if you keep your windows open driving this particular road , chances are you will smell an overwhelming aggression on your nostrils in the early hours. For all its huge development , authorities are not clamping down on those shameless scums who openly defecate out in the open It's easy to sing praise of NM if you live in very secluded gated localities like Seawoods Estate and similar type of developments but you need to really look hard and keep your eyes open to see the slow chipping away of PWD works not being upto the mark. ALL I CAN HOPE - is that CIDCO and other ancillary organisations under it clean up - AND REALLY CLEAN up their act in sprucing up the NM region. Mining activity is something that needs to be curbed with limits - if not banned. It is, a dust bowl , quite literally.

Does it also occur to ANYONE else apart from me that most of the construction in Navi Mumbai of residential buildings - especially from the 90s onwards era, have QUITE THICK exterior walls? I have myself measured Hafeez Contractor's copies of Seawoods arched balconies and they are a staggering 2 feet thick.
Modern residential buildings have less "BULK" on the exteriors but the 90s era architecture have walls that are fit for forts ![]() (note please refer to the picture posted by Azzi) (again, all engineers of SSCI - care to comment why incredibly thick walls for buildings in NM was/is a norm when less thick exteriors can do?)

The smell you get in navi mumbai actually comes from across the creek ... Deonar dumping ground depending upon the direction the wind is blowing ... the problem with Navi mumbai is that since inception till about late 90's the property has been developed by Cidco or local developers who just sold pigeon holes. It is only after 2000 that good buildings/ commerical structures have come up..... Big developers like Raheja, Hiranandani, etc stayed away as the plot size being offered by Cidco where good for a stand alone buildings rather than housing complexes like we see in Thane or Kandivali. ... Yeah and the mining should be banned immediately ... it will lead to far lesser dust and greening up the place or covering open grounds with grass could be another option ..... (BTW i stay on the palm beach road .. and trust me when you can sit in the balcony and gulp beer .... it is heaven)

It looks good enough. Certainly better than that Chennai one which looked like the post-apocalyptic picture. (I gave a 5 only because of my country)

I disagree with most of the people here. I found Navi Mumbai pretty neat and organized when I went. Only problem was that it was a bit too sparsely populated and too widespread. It looks like a lot of new beautiful buildings have come up since 4 years ago, so it looks a lot more lively now.

I live in Noida 2 months out of every year. It's shit. No electricity, there's open sewage everywhere so most every other blocks stinks. Roads are pretty good in some areas, but horrible in others, i'll say it's 50/50.

Also, it did look pretty dry and barren when I went to NM, but I guess that's because I was there during the driest and hottest month of the year. I guess during monsoon season it must look pretty nice and green

I agree, I lived in Noida for 12 years! I just moved to Mumbai a year ago. The biggest problem is electricity! Blackouts for hours everyday!
