Atlanta almost looks half rustbelt in those pics, and still looks the most "rustbelt" of any city in the South. Part of the reason I like it so much

Sadly half those buildings are gone, but half are still here!

Edit: Actually Birmingham looks quite "rust-belty" as well, and Nashville to a smaller extent. I like old warehouses, smoke stacks, brick, and the overall rustbelt look!

Atlanta was (and still is) a much more industrial city than most people realize. Heavy industry drove the economy in Atlanta for decades prior to America's industrial decline.

Some other industrial southern cities...Richmond, Winston-Salem, New Orleans, Memphis, Chattanooga, etc.

How is that downtown San Antonio actually looks weaker now than it did back in the day? I guess compared to Houston and Dallas, San Antonio never had much of a 70s-80s skyscraper boom but did tear a lot of things down.

I know it was a terrible time, but some of these skylines looked quite interesting in the 1960s and 70s. I happen to like modern architecture, but am of course saddened by the destruction of older urban fabric. Some of these pictures capture a unique time when a few contemporary towers had gone up but urban renewal was yet to be complete, so you get to see both side by side.

Also, wtf here we are in the future, where are the goddamn blimps?
