THE first of 19 Avenio low-floor LRVs being supplied by Siemens for Qatar's Education City light rail line has left the company's test centre at Wildenrath in northwest Germany on the first stage of its journey to the Gulf

The 27.7m-long three-section vehicle, which underwent climatic testing at the Rail Tec Arsenal facility in Vienna before moving to Wildenrath, will be shipped to Qatar from the port of Bremerhaven on Germany's North Sea coast

...
And regarding this light rail, I found this in Qatar subforum:

Does anybody know if the Doha trams will use overhead wires or use an embedded power strip like Dubai?

It is completely catenary free.
And no it will use batteries and charging stations.
Dubai uses third rail, it is a French system.

Is there a reason why they didn't choose the french system?

Because all these wireless power options are locked into the relevant providers. For APS you need an Alstom Tram. For Tramwave you need an Anseldo tram, etc. Siemens hasn't developed their wireless catenary options yet so they have to rely on batteries.

Trams arrive for Education City
September 01, 2015 - 1:59 am

Officials with a new tram at Doha port yesterday. Qatar Foundation for Education is setting up a tram system to transform Education City into an environmentally-friendly smart-city

DOHA: A first shipment of trams has arrived in Doha, making it one step closer to transforming Education City into an environment-friendly ‘smart-city’.

With Qatar Foundation for Education (QF) placing sustainability at the top of its agenda, the first batch of trams for its QF Tram System arrived recently.

QF’s ‘smart-city’ is set to boast a car-free zone with reduced carbon emissions, and is part of a wider, multifaceted plan to ensure that sustainability is an integral part of the day-to-day lives of local residents. Ultimately designed to create a better future for all, the theme resonates throughout QF’s work, both within Education City and across the country

Schöma locomotives used on Doha Metro contracts

I am am looking for images showing the special tunnel construction locomotives.

There are two types of Schöma tunnel locomotives, which are made in Germany, that have been obtained for operation on the 900 mm gauge trains used for transporting materials up to the TBMs at the working face. There are wagons carrying the concrete segments that form the rings making up the tunnel shell. Also wagons of grouting materials to fill the gaps between the rings and raw tunnel diameter.

The contractors for the Red M10 Line South are using the larger Schöma CHL350-BB for operating their trains. Some that are painted white are older locos that had previously worked in Spain and the Panama, and there are also some newer ones painted orange that came straight from the factory in Germany.

The contractors for the Red M10 Line North are using the smaller Schöma CFL180DCL for operating the supply trains. Most seem to be the newer locos which are painted orange. One of these can be seen in the background of this picture:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...554046&page=23 Post #454 "red Line north - Corniche"

Over on the Green M30 Line the contractors here have adopted the use of special rubber-tyred supply vehicles without the use of rails to service their TBMs.

There seem to be no pictures of the TBMs operating on the Gold M20 Line yet. So it is not known if the tunnel segments will transported by train or by rubber-tyred vehicle?

Please can you post any pictures here of any tunnel building photos that show the construction trains being used. It is difficult to get any pictures from the Qatar Rail site - sometimes not possible to connect from the other side of the world. Anyone living in the area please keep an eye out for new pictures and post them here, please.

There are also similar locomotives operating on the Ashghal Abu Hamour Southern Outfall Project, Stage II, Phase I Mesaimeer Waste Water Tunnel and on the upcoming Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy (IDRIS), Main trunk sewer.

Thank you

Interesting vision footage, very publicity-orientated with the fancy effects. As a student of tunnel construction railways, a little frustrating to see brief glimpses of rail equipment, but without pausing long enough to be able to determine who is operating what! I hope that a 'proper' documentary is assembled about the 'ins-n-outs' of the projects in due course...
