Doha Metro TBMs complete bores
Tuesday, February 16, 2016

TWO Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) working on Qatar's Doha Metro Green Line have successfully completed their sections of tunnelling

The TBMs went through four breakthroughs before reaching their final destination of Msheireb. The machines are amongst 21 used in the first phase of the Doha Metro project and 30km of the 33km of tunnels on the route have now been completed

Doha metro tunnel breakthrough
24 Mar 2016

QATAR: Qatar Rail celebrated the completion of tunnelling on the Red Line North section of the metro when a TBM broke through between Legtaifiya and Qatar University stations on March 21.

Boring of the 11·3 km tunnel started on July 19 2014 and used four earth pressure balance TBMs. They achieved an average of 30 m per day at their peak, with the best daily rate of 42 m set by Lebretha on March 29 2015

TBMs complete Doha Metro Red Line North

There is also a good write-up of this latest set of breakthroughs at this site:

http://www.tunneltalk.com/Doha-Metro...Line-North.php

This author is still wanting to discover which tunnel locomotives have been operating on this line and some of the other lines still under construction as detailed in my post at #75.

Have there been any more photographs of these on the official web sites?

Schöma locomotives used on Doha Metro contracts

There is a marvellous set of photographs showing the TBMs in operation on the Green M30 Line.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/avivil...57647869053744

Unfortunately for this author - who is an enthusiast of industrial railway use - this TBM project uses the special 'Multi Function Vehicle' (MFV), running on large pneumatic rubber tyres, to move the TBM supplies up to the back-up gantry behind the TBM working face. The size of the TBM bore at 7.02 m allows choice in the use of these more bulky materials-handling MFVs. On some of the other lines the jv contractors' partners already had an extensive assortment of rail-based construction equipment available, and have used the existing and some new-build tunnel profile locomotives to service their projects here.

Smaller diameter tunnels remain the preserve of the narrow gauge rail system. This includes the on-going Ashghal, Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy (IDRIS) project.
Ashghal, Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy (IDRIS), Connecting sewers - Bouygues Travaux Publics/UrbaCon Trading & Contracting jv (C) - Northern connecting sewer TBM-EPB x.xx m od {3.0 m id} x 16 000 m; Southern connecting sewer TBM-EPB x.xx m od {4.5 m id} x 14 000 m (_/16~_/20)
I hope that some more observations and reports are forthcoming soon.

Doha metro concrete structures delivered
17 Aug 2016

QATAR: Heavy-lift logistics company ALE has completed the delivery of 1 470 pre-tensioned concrete pedestal, girder, bridging and segment structures between 10 and 36 m long and weighing between 30 and 100 tonnes for the construction of the first phase of the Doha metro.

Over a period of 11 months ALE collected the structures from the fabrication area and transported them between 50 m and 8 km over ‘challenging roads’ to the installation points. This required the use of a 34-axle line of conventional trailers, three 10-axle extendable semi-trailers, six prime movers and 24-axle lines of self-propelled modular transporters
