EUROPE - UEFA EURO 2020
The UEFA EURO 2020 final tournament will be staged in 13 cities across Europe, following a decision taken today by the UEFA Executive Committee at its first meeting of 2013 at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
The UEFA Executive Committee, chaired by UEFA President Michel Platini, approved the key event and football principles for the "EURO for Europe", which include: • The matches will be split into 13 different packages, with 12 ordinary packages including three group matches and one knockout round (round of 16 or quarter-final), and one package for the semi-finals and the final; • There will only be a maximum of one venue per country, meaning one stadium for each of the available 13 packages. Both semi-finals and the final will be played in one stadium; and • Each association will be allowed to present up to two bids, one for the ordinary package and one for the semi-finals/final package. Each national association can decide to present the same city for these two bids or two different cities. Projected stadiums will be admitted in the bidding process, with a deadline set in 2016 for the construction of any new stadium to start, failing which the decision on such a host city could be reviewed. The required minimum net stadiums capacities should be: • 70,000 for semi-finals/final; • 60,000 for quarter-finals; • 50,000 for round of 16 and group matches; and • Up to two exceptions would be allowed for stadiums of a net minimum capacity of 30,000 seats, limited to group matches and a round of 16 match. All teams will participate in the qualifying competition and the 13 countries staging matches will therefore not be automatically qualified. A maximum of two host teams would be drawn into each of the six final tournament groups, with each qualified host being guaranteed two home matches in the group phase. There would not be any such guarantee for the knockout stages. For the group stage, the group composition would remain subject to seeding and to a draw. However, the allocation of hosting teams to the groups would also take travel distances into account (for example, and if feasible, with flights not exceeding two hours' duration between host cities to allow easy access to travelling fans). The participating teams will be free to choose where to set up their base camp, without the obligation to stay in one of the host countries. The timeline for the bidding process has been approved by the UEFA Executive Committee: • 28 March 2013: Approval of the bidding requirements and bid regulations • April 2013: Publication of the bid requirements and launch of the bidding phase • September 2013: Formal confirmation of their bid by the candidates • April/May 2014: Submission of bid dossiers and start of the evaluation phase • September 2014: Appointment of the host cities by the UEFA Executive Committee A video news recording of the UEFA Executive Committee press conference will be made available today on the Eurovision worldfeed service at 20.00CET. http://www.uefa.com/uefa/aboutuefa/o...d=1913839.html Who do you think should host it? Does anyone have any information about the deadlines for bidding for this tournament? And when is the host likely to be announced?

Croatia isn't bidding.. not with Serbia/Bosnia or with Slovenia/Italy like some have been mentioning in last few days. Absolutely no one apart from Slovenian and Serbian media mentioned anything and there's absolutely no support in public or FA for any kind of bid at this moment. Croatian football needs to be completely changed from bottom to top and any kind of bidding would be completely pointless at this point.

I don't know why it shouldn't be ?? Since the election process has to be based on bids and evaluation reports... SO, the best bid should win ! (and as far I know there's no rotations policy for the hosts of this competition)
Look at the "Grande Nation" as ze Germans used to call France : Euro '60, Winter Olympics '68, Euro '84, Winter Olympics '92, World Cup '98, Rugby World Cup 2007, Euro 2016... (+ Winter Olympics 2018 & Summer Olympics 2024 ![]() )..... etc------ Come on, of course you do ! And a 24-team Euro is not "a consolation prize" but simply a World Cup without Brazil and Argentina !!! Anyway..see you in France in 2016 !! I'm pretty sure the atmosphere (from Nice to Lille, inside and outside the stadiums) will be as good as during France '98 and Germany 2006 !

Could be interesting a joint bid CZECH REPUBLIC - HUNGARY, with the opening match in Budapest and final in Prague.
Or in alternative TURKEY Italy, my country, will not bid for Euro 2020 for two reasons: - 2020 Rome will run for the Olympic Games - Italy lose 2012 and 2016 edition. I repeat my dream is to see a joint bid Hungary-Czech Republic. |

Wales just isn't big enough to host the tournament. Scotland and Ireland would be more appropriate - remember they bidded for Euro 2012

It's time for Turkey, not because I am Turkish but because it's really time.

![]() I think Turkey will get it. A lot of folk are still somewhat pissed about 2016 so they will probably get the guilt votes. That's not to say I don't think they deserve it mind you. I think Turkey would do a fantastic job as hosts. Being British (English to be exact), I would love to see one (or more) of the home nations get it. The Scots know how to throw a party!

There is no way that Ireland will bid for this with the financial problems in the country. Scotland and Wales discussed bidding for Euro 2016 but decided not to because of the recession. They could use these stadiums in a bid for Euro 2020:
GLASGOW: Hampden- 50000 Celtic Park- 60000 OR Ibrox- 50000 (OR both??????) EDINBURGH: Murrayfield- 67000 Tynecastle OR Easter Road- Expanded to 30000 ABERDEEN: New Aberdeen stadium - 30000 DUNDEE: New Dundee stadium - 30000* INVERNESS: New Inverness stadium - 30000* *reduced to more sensible capacity after tournament CARDIFF: Millennium Stadium- 73000 Cardiff City Stadium- Expanded to 30000 SWANSEA: Liberty Stadium- Expanded to 30000 LLANELLI: Parc y Scarlets- Expanded to 30000 |

I vaguely remember reading something about the Liberty Stadium where they said that it wasn't built with expansion in mind so if Swansea were to be part of a European Championship bid then they would need to build a new stadium. It was a while ago when I heard this and I don't know how much truth there is to it though.
