The Coliseum isn't the only victim. There's the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

"Oakland Mausoleum"
I believe the nickname "Oakland Mausoleum" caught on in the late 1970s not late sixties as someone mentioned at Holtz's site. By that time, in the late 1970s, Reggie Jackson was already a Yankee.

It 'caught on' in the late 70s (when the place was falling apart, and baseball attendance was usually less than 5,000 per), but was first uttered somewhere (and mentioned in print) around 1969-70. That's why the prime suspect is Reggie.

Orioles vs Athletics
The A's actually sold out their game vs Baltimore yesterday. Both teams are vying for postseason births. This stadium is a good example why percentage of ballpark capacity is irrelevant. Pay no attention to it ever. All those 41-43k sellouts by the Cleveland Indians in the '90s would have been a lot less impressive if the Tribe were still playing in the "Mistake by the Lake".

Just asking...
It would cost more to renovate this place instead of build a new one, right? |

Yeah it would cost alot more to Renovate it. Best thing would be to pull this stadium down and built from fresh. Baseball and Football stadiums each side. If Only tho

It all depends on the definition of "renovation". But it is pretty much agreed that the Coliseum is a better fit for football than baseball.

Ok, now it's not gonna happen.... obviously. I thought I'd just get that out of the way.
But I made a crude and slightly off, but identafiable Sketch Up representation of what I thought a renovation to the O.com Coliseum would look like. So.... ![]() Basically, the sidelines would match in the Mount Davis configuration. The endzones on the other hand would be more modern. ![]() One of the endzone sections would be a bowl section and suites (you can probably tell, I was a bit inspired by The Carter @ TCU). ![]() ![]() The other endzone (like The Carter) is a bowl and 2nd tier with an open concourse. ![]() New facade for the sideline sections of the stadium. ![]() This is the direction I'd think the Raiders would go if they decided to renovate instead of build a new stadium if and when the A's left. But this is just fantasy, of course.... |

For the people of Oakland, I really hope that the Raiders stay. With the Warriors and likely the A's moving in other directions, the identity of Oakland as a sports town in serious jeopardy. The Raiders playing somewhere else just doesn't seem right to me, including LA. |

Nice renders! That would actually be (as much as I hate to say it as a Broncos fan) a really solid stadium.
Is there a strong push for renovation or just a new stadium? |

Sketch Up's easy. All ya really have to do is play around with it about an hour or half that. Thanks, but I really wish I had more advanced software.
I really wish there was a renovation in plans like the one I just put up, but the Raiders will be looking for an overall brand new stadium, and even THAT'S gonna be difficult, though cheaper (apparently). The A's are really pushing to move out to San Jose, so if it happens, the Coliseum will belong to the Raiders only. Buuuuuuuuuut, there's still some hurddles.... The Raiders have never really specified what their preference would be. They have made no secret of their envy of the Niners' project in Santa Clara, but they have missed the boat to be anything other than a tenant there. Other than that it's been really quiet in Raiderland, and after dealing with The Madness of King Al for so many years, the silence is kind of strange. Part of that might be how the Niners are just shoveling bushels of good news stories out the door. But something has to be going on in Alameda. We just don't know what.
