Following the time line from this time, the process will start in late 2016 with the announcement in late 2018.

Personally I think both FA's and especially TV-stations from Western Europe will demand that Europe are allowed to bid for 2026.

Under the current rules they aren't allowed to bid for 2026. And as 2030 by 90 % chance will go to Uruguay and Argentina the next one is 2034 for Western Europe. That makes it 28 years since WC 2006. Until now Western Europe has hosted a WC every 8 years. And FIFA still has 70-80 % of it's income from Western Europe. Excluding the tournament from it's primary market for almost 30 years is not to smart of a decision.

Well, I think Europe should not be getting used to the whole 8 year rotation of hosting a WC anymore with more countries becoming eligible to host the WC.

And technically, isn't part of Russia considered Europe?

Agreed.

Europe can't expect to go back to the days when it hosted the World Cup once every eight years.

It's possible, though, that with the World Cup quite likely to be awarded to Uruguay / Argentina in 2030, FIFA may allow European countries to bid for 2026.

Nevertheless, I think U.S.A will still be favourites.

One can easily expect this bid stadium setup:
Existing, no upgrades:
- BC Place (Vancouver - British Columbia) - 60,000
- Skydome (Toronto - Ontario) - 46,374 to 50,000
- New Winnipeg Stadium (Winnipeg - Manitoba) - 45,000
Existing, minor upgrades:
- Stade Olympique (Montreal - Quebec) - 66,308
- New Roughriders Stadium (Regina - Saskatchewan) - 50,000
Existing, major upgrades:
- Commonwealth Stadium (Edmonton - Alberta) - 70,000
- McMahon Stadium (Calgary - Alberta) - 50,000
- Pan American Stadium (Hamilton - Ontario - Athletics Track) - 45,000
- Frank Clair Stadium (Ottawa - Ontario, effective complete reconstruction) - 45,000
- Moncton Stadium (Moncton - New Brunswick - Athletics Track) - 40,000
- BMO Field (Toronto - Ontario) - 40,000
New Stadiums:
- Toronto Stadium (Toronto - Ontario, convertible, from Athletics to all kinds of Football, thanks to movable seats on the lower tier) - 80,000
- Halifax Stadium (Halifax - Nova Scotia - Athletics Track, down-sizable) - 45,000
- Quebec City Stadium (Quebec City - Quebec - down-sizable) - 40,000
If Qatar can do it, then surely Canada, the world's 2nd largest country, with a population like 30 times of Qatar can do it!
:P
Actually Canada would be awesome! I can see the whole country getting behind the event too; it tends to get a bit lost in the USA. And I know a Canadian Summer can be quite glorious. Lots for the eye to behold!

Australia is apart of the Asian confederation and therefore only allowed to bid for the 2034 at the earliest. Don't expect another bid from Australia for a very long time. Golden opportunity lost to grow football in a region (Australasia) compromised for the biggest act of corruption in sport history.
